I am the new, proud owner of a 1965 Scout 80. I have come to the realization that it is going to be a fun, long-term, (hopefully no more then 2 yrs.) and expensive project. I am aware of my own skills, or the lack of them, and at some point I will be making a trip to Grass Valley.
The vehicle has a clean, straight body, with only surface rust. The engine runs, but sound like the timing is a little off. It appears to have new wiring and a new clutch master cylinder from 2 previous owners ago. The original gauges currently don't work. A set of aftermarket oil pressure, temperature, and volt gauges are in working order. The po attempted an SOA but did not complete it. No shocks were installed, some shock mounting bolts or bushings are missing, rear plates were installed backwards on springs and the front drive shaft came in a box of misc. Parts. The vin plate was mounted upside down in the engine compartment, is this a way of saying the odometer had rolled over or just someone's lack of detail?
I'm looking for a mostly original daily driver with some modern updates, not anything too extreme.
I'm going to start with returning it to SUA and installing shocks so I can at least get around town safely. I would like to have an SOA, d44 front axle, and 304 with an overdrive in the future, but for now I'm going to concentrate on getting all systems working properly so can decide between my needs and wants.
Can someone confirm I have a 152 and not a 196, I also need to know what transfer case I have. I'm confident the transmission is a t-90. Any other support or ideas are greatly appreciated.
