I have a 73 Scout II with a 304 v8 and 4 speed manual. Shifting into 1st (reverse also) requires the truck to either be moving or I push and hold the clutch for 10 sec. Otherwise it grinds. Another work around at stop lights is to press clutch, shift to 2nd, then up to first, then let clutch out. Is this normal? Some have suggested the trany is a "non-synchro" trany and thus normal. I have no transmission knowledge. Can anyone shed some light? Normal? Problem? If problem, what do I need to fix?
