1979 scout 2 question

So probably a dumb question.
There is a round bulkhead connector in the center of the firewall. 2 wires connected to the top and multiple wires below in a connector.
The 2 wires on top one goes to the condenser and one goes to the starter.
Starter wire is hot goes to bulkhead not hot coming back out other side no matter where key is. If I jump these together works as should.
Does anybody know why?

Welcome to the forum. I know IH changed the bh connector design found on the late production scouts. Supposedly this was an improvement over the previous design. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a diagram that shows the pin outs of that bhc. My reference pertains to the pre-'77 models. What didn't change from early to late are the circuits involved and their corresponding id numbers. Although unclear, I'm assuming from your post that you are having some difficulty in getting your starter motor to actuate properly via the ignition switch. Your question isn't dumb at all, but a little more clarity and background information from you would certainly aid us in understanding the exact nature of your issue.

Thank you for responding.
Actually I have zero power in the cab. No lights nothing. If I jump the 2 wires together at the top of this bulkhead everything works as it should.
It had been working fine, sat for a couple weeks and now wont work without jumping these wires.

I had the same problem with my 74 Scout. The pins get loose and corrode. I cleaned them with a small wire brush and brake cleaner then used a small pick to gently tighten up the female pins. I used a very small amount of dow corning dc 4 to coat the pins before putting it back together. That was about 4 years ago and have never had a problem since. Also check the wiring on both sides of the connectors for signs of heat damage. You should probably do all 3 connectors. Danny
