1977 Scout II Rescue

Hey guys, figured id introduce myself. Ive been lurking for quite a while and finally registered a few days ago.

Im looking to make this a weekend trail truck/drive a day or two to work a week type vehicle. Keeping the modifications road and user friendly if you know what I mean.

Im a bmw man at heart and have had around 17. Mostly of the e30 sort (84-92 3-series). But I can respect a well built American 4x4.

Specs-----

-304 v8
-727 torque-flite
-d20 transfer case
-Dana 44 axles
-already had the duraspark dist. Conversion(messy)
-a few rat modifications(sat in a field)

a little back-story first.

I was given a 1977 scoutii a few months ago, with no title and about as much rust as the titanic. Fortunately I discovered the frame to be in perfect shape!
Most of the drivetrain was in good shape. Save for the front drive axle. Which will be addressed later.

Since I am a welder by trade and love a challenge I started researching what it would take to get the body back up to snuff. After some long hours and even longer wish lists I decided the best bet was to find a donor body..

What im about to show you will hopefully not upset too many of you. I salvaged what I could and still have many parts of the body that I am looking to sell to recoop project costs.

Goals-

-GM TBI(already in progress)
-rebuild the 727( was told it wasnt shifting right, from what ive read on here it probably due to sitting and condensation)
-clean-up and reseal the 304 (runs great!)
-clean-up, re-seal and check intermediate shaft in the d20
-hopefully upgrade weak links in drivetrain(with your recommendation on what breaks)
-fit a bmw 4 door body onto the Scout frame (shorten the driveshaft and frame, taking opinions)

Yup, ive decided to put a 4 door bmw body I have on hand on it. Ive shortened the frame to 101.2 wheelbase.
Ironically all I had to do was remove the frame extension.

Pics to come soon. Ill get back to you guys that are interested in parts.

Luckily here in sc the title goes with the body. Considering its essentially a axle swap in their eyes. I asked before hand to cover my behind.

The bmw was equipped with a rack and a straight shaft steering column. Im just going to tie the steering column into the IH steering box. Ive made a spacer/adapter to go in place of the rag-joint. Its not running yet. Still in mock up stage

Wow. I like that a lot better than the 4wd beemers I see the yuppies driving around CA in. What part of sc are you in?

Cheers, jack

Your question likely just got overlooked. Your best bet for proper attention is to start a new thread for questions of this nature in the most appropriate subheading.

We have quite a bit of information in this thread regarding the chrysler-produced tf727 transmission, includes pictures of all the variations and their bellhousing patterns:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/transmission-tech/588-torqueflite-727-guapo.html

The aa adapter will not fit a chev motor to an IH-pattern tf727. Again, the bellhousing patterns between the two units are completely different. But...

The aa p/n 712572-a will work.
