Also got around to finishing off my vintage air system.

There is not much room left to run hoses so I am having to get creative

So I picked up this 8274 winch for my Scout. After reading some online posts I was inspired to rebuild it.

How I got it

Pick here on my new front bumper, another work in progress

Tear down begins

dsc02866.jpg

Rewired remote with new switch from napa and 15 feet of power tool cord from home depot

I love how this old stuff is rebuildable

cleaned all connections with spray electronics clean and q tips

dsc02875.jpg

This model actually came as mopar option on some Jeep's other then this sticker its a standard 8274
dsc02876.jpg

Cool suprise when cleaning it up was this made in usa logo

Fun project too bad it doesnt fit my new bumper, time to get out the plasma

Got my front bumper done

got my 8274 mounted
used a hansen off road mounting plate, nice quality
img_0861.jpg

Cut 4" holes and sleved them with 4" pipe to mount the hella 1300 driving lights

img_0862.jpg

img_0863.jpg

Still deciding if I want to mount 6 or 7 inch hella or daylighter off road lights as well.

Painted the bumper with vht satin black

Wired up the winch with 2ga battery cable

painted rock sliders with same paint

It a ratzfab bumper that I modified with the driving lights by cutting and sleeving the holes with pipe. The 8274 mount is a hansen off road unit. Its 3/16 plate

Havent updated in a while. I have been battling a cooling issue. The 2 row was not keeping the built 355 cool, so I ended up upgrading to a 3 row, so far so good

ended up haveing to move and remount the trans cooler to accomidate the bigger radiator

Bracket I made
dsc02989.jpg

I figured while I had everything apart I might as well add some insurance in form of a an oil cooler

dsc02991.jpg

Picked up this derale unit which appears to be very well made (in the usa)

plan is to mount it on the driver sider behind the headlight bucket so I dont dump any additional heat into the radiator.

I plan to hook up a 7 inch e fan to help pull air if passive flow is not enough

dsc02992.jpg

I also finished the front floor repairs and bedliner.

I was able to install my speakers, trim piece and arms rests

Tore more stuff apart. I found a set of pulleys at the pick in pull to run my ac. So I stripped and coated those. Then my alternator belt would not fit, so I figure I might as well upgrade my alternator from 63 amp 1 wire unit I had to a 3 wire cs144.

I also shimmed my ps pump a little for more pressure while it was drained since I also found a ps cooler on a nice rolled 2004 expedition.

I tore down my 1406 and changed the jets to 1405 specs, added the off road kit, adjusted the floats and put on a 1" spacer. Found a bunch of very fine plastic bits on the internal filter so I hope that is what was leading to me "running out of gas" problem I had climbing hills on the freeway

my new oil cooler had bad machining on the inlet and now they are backordered until 9/15 so I just looped the cooler lines for now

hope to get it started again this weekend

Aeroquip push lock hoses good to 250psi for the oil cooler lines

So the other day I got stuck in 2wd and when I put it into gear I got nothing. After verifying the driveshaft was turning and the hubs were locking I tore off the differential cover on my Dana 30 the cross shaft was in 2 peices and the spider gears where chewed up and laying on the bottom of the case.

I had always planned on going to a d44 but had planned to do it after a little time on the road to see how it held up, well I guess that time is now

found a complete Dana 44 on craiglslist for 150 and started tearing it down. Rather than just throw new gears in and call it good I decided to rebuild it all, all new seals, bearings, u joints etc

called up randys ring and pinion, great service and they where able to match some other online prices for the parts I needed and shipped for free.

Today 3 boxes showed up that I ordered Monday

2 4.88 Yukon ring and pinions
2 Yukon master install kits
2 set of timken wheel bearings
2 eaton e lockers
and a set of setup bearings

I havent ordered the ball joints or tie rod ends yet

dsc03108.jpg

Now I am still sprung under and plan to keep it that way for a while my lift springs and 2" body left clear my 33 m/ts pretty good, and I want to get this thing on the road with out the added work of getting stock springs, and doing hi steer right now

that said someday I plan to run 35's and decided to do the cut and turn now, as it will benefit me (although not required) even in my SUA configuration

dsc03106.jpg

I also would like to point the pinion at the transfer case since I am running cv front drive shaft

dsc03104.jpg

The cut and turn will allow me to do that without creating a horrible caster situation

Took a break of axle grinding to finish some wiring

finished the fan install

dsc03112.jpg

I was out of space on my dash for the locker switches so I decided to mount them down by the transfer case

dsc03114.jpg

The eaton e lockers actually come with contura switches instead of the round switches they show on the box.

I point the front locker to click forward and the rear to point back so they could be activated by touch

dsc03115.jpg

In order to protect the wires from water and mud I modifies an alum project box to fit around the switch

dsc03117.jpg

dsc03116.jpg

Got some worke on the Scout today

got the front gears installed today.

dsc03129.jpg

Still working on the axle turn.

Here is what the crack looks like on the axle tubes as it starts to emerge

I officially gave up on the of the electric fans. Switched to a viscous fan clutch. This one is out of a 1992 jaguar, it the shortest fan clutch that is made that will fit the drive pattern.

The fan is out of a 1977 olds 350 and ac 6 blade with 2 1/4" pitch. Cooled alot better still need to make a shroud

dsc03131.jpg

Old fans out of v6 contour, they pull a decent amount of air but not quite enough for the 3 row radiator, ac condensor and transmission cooler

dsc03132.jpg

Finally got my rear tire carrier installed with a spare, and hi lift

Got it from another board member downsizing his Scout for a different purpose

its build by anythingscout. He wanted 500 and gave me 75 for my stock bumper. At 425 total cost I couldnt justfiy building one myself, and I think the anythingscout bumper matches the design of my front bumper and and sliders well.

I plan to modify it with some backup lights and possible swap out the gas can with one of adventure trailer fueld holders

adventure trailers - fuel storage

Thanks

I am happy with it so far. The previous owner took it through the rubicon multiple times. The bearing were rusty but easily changed with a set of set14 timken bearings

I added a led third brake light/license place light (gotta stay legal)

dsc03167.jpg

Ran the wire though the frame with grommets

dsc03171.jpg

Bailing wire came in handy here to pull the wires through

dsc03170.jpg

Planning to install these led lights, in the bumper, they flush mount, I want to make the front and rear bumpers look the same
