1968 1300 Pickup ID please?

Ok, here we go....I found this bad boy and decided what the heck, lets do it. I have rebuilt my 1968 Ford f100 and was itching to do something different.

I could really use and id on the truck as I would like to buy a parts/repair manual before I start shopping. I was told 1968 1 ton. Vin: 783208h766468

I know this is not the original bed and I have found an original to replace it, but does anyone know what this was off of?

I have seen slide controls on another IH, just wondering what's up.

What is up with the heater/vent controls? Mine are pull type that don't work the best, however I have a lead on some slide type controls. Are the slide not original or just a diff year?
 
It looks like the same principal. Just a cable style function. Im not sure about stock or not. But it doesnt appear to be modified.
 
It is definitely a 1967 model year unless someone has retrofitted a dual brake system to an earlier model.

It isn't a 1968 model because it doesn't have the id lights in the front fenders.

It May have sold new for the first time in 1968 and got titled in that year.

The bed looks stock but it looks as if someone has put a lift on it so they could pour material out of the center of the tailgate.

I don't understand your slide control comments. The round body heater controls you pulled out or pushed in to open and close the vents, open and close the heater valve, and to turn on or off the blower fans.

It appears as if you have an aftermarket electric fuel pump and the original fuel pump has been taken out of the circuit.

It also appears as if you have an aftermarket block heater plumbed into the heater hose.

If the bed is stock, than how come it does not line up with the axles and cab. Here is a better picture to show. It actually looks like the bed could move back a few inches to line up with the axles, but even at it stands now, it is also already a few inches away from the cab.

I have know where I can get some used heater/vent controls, however, they are the slide type as found in most older vehicles and not my push/pull controls. What year did they start making the slide type heater controls vs the pull/push controls?
 
Accroding to your vin your truck didnt come as a stepside. It came as a fleetside as I stated in my earlier post. It is a period correct bed. However your original bed was replaced either due to rust. Necessity. Or astetics.

I prefer the stepside and I think the bugger looks good on there. Can you maybe fixhow its bolted up?

Bolted up? :hand: that sucker is welded on with various peices of square tubing as the lift kit. Lol yea, I like the stepside, but the floor in the box is shot.
 
Oi. Crap. Well when it doubt cut it out. Toss the lift. Add diamond plate. And wheel the piss out of that thing. Throw some headers on the 304 while your at it so it sounds like a monster truck

In the full size IH realm, the horizontal slide control for the hvac first came on the scene with the introduction of the d-series line (aka square body) which debuted in 1969. I don't know how easily the controls from a later model rig could be retrofitted to yours, but I suppose anything is possible if the desire and necessity is strong enough.

Jason, the photo you posted does not show the heater or heater controls in your truck in much detail. The heater unit (under dash) appears to be the standard heater. Here is some info for you.

The standard capacity heater in the c-series light line trucks had the two (2) horizontal slider cable controls as you mention, upper for the vent and the lower for temp. Also one vertical operating switch on the left for the fan and one vertical operating lever on the right for defrost.

Trucks with IH super capacity heaters had five (5) knobs which controlled the heater and has two (2) fans. Controls are: "temp" "l-fan" "r-fan" "vent" "def". The heater box also has two levers to control airflow: "damper control" on the left side and "door control" on the front.

The operations of these two heater types are detailed in the IH operators manual for your truck which is available for purchase to this day.

1968 IH operators manual mt-2330b, pages 14 & 15.

The third possibility for IH trucks was a truck with no heater. This would have two (2) pull-push knobs on the dash to control the two fresh air vents in the cowl.

Post a detailed photo of your heater controls, as I suspect your heater control panel is from another vehicle or has been cobbled together from parts, or possibly a mixture of two IH units.

Thanks for the photo.
The heater panel was originally for the IH super capacity heater, modified by an owner.
Post a photo of the heater unit as well so we can see which heater it is. Possibly the original heater unit failed and was replaced with a standard heater unit and the controls were modified to fit the replacement heater unit.

That confirms you have the standard heater unit and the super capacity control panel.

So you could locate a standard control panel and install that.
