1962 Scout 80 coil issues

Hello everyone, there is alot of great info on this forum. My father and I have gathered 5 Scout 80's and we are looking to build 3 good ones out of them. The first is a 1962 Scout 80, id number fc52247, all stock and original. We got it last year, got it home replaced the clutch slave cylinder and fixed the brakes, threw a battery in it and it started up and we drove it around the property for a few weeks. Winter came and it sat, this summer we tried to start it with a fresh battery and it turns over but no fire. The engine compartment was moldy from the rain over the winter. I replaced battery, points, condenser, rotor, dist cap, coil and ballast resistor, nothing seemed to change. The wiring is pretty messed up as they removed the generator and replaced it with an alternator, but it was running before it sat. We figured it had to do with water getting into some part of the ignition system, but we have replaced almost everything. It appears we are getting no spark from the coil, so we have another new coil to try, but other ideas would help, thanks.

With that many s80 rigs around, you should also have a service manual??? If you do, then use the schematic and trace for battery power using a test lamp or voltmeter, starting at the distributor ground (breaker points) and working backwards through the entire ignition system, wire run by wire run.

If you do not have a service manual, then look at this thread and download the schematic which will be post #22:

We also need to know which distributor you are working with, a Scout 80 could have had any of three different units, plus an aftermarket mallory. Distributor identification is found in this thread:

There are significant differences in the ignition setups on the Scout 80 that are dependent upon which distributor is being used.
