Actually the carb was fairly clean internally. The fuel bowl leakage was caused by a poor fit up of the cork gasket.
I made the repair to the throttle lever/shaft. The vacuum fitting and the fuel inlet fitting has been re-sealed so make sure when you connect the fuel hose you support the fitting with a backup wrench.
The big issue...two of the three main well bleeds inside the tiny passages were plugged with something. So the access ports for those were drilled out, the holes restored, and it was resealed.
Runs perfectly right now.
Make certain you have a fresh fuel filter installed before the fuel pump and another one installed before the fuel inlet at the carb.
