Carb on stock 63 s80 started leaking today. I've read through the posts. Is it worth it to buy a rebuild kit or should I send it in? I'm gonna use the rig to plow snow and it is frikin cold now -24. My main concern is getting it up and running - no dickin around. Thanks

If the fuel leak is being created due to the "float level" changing for some reason, then ya either have trash in the fuel inlet needle/seat or the float has become "heavy" (due to fuel absorption) and is no longer floating properly.

A kit of any type will not have a replacement float in it, but we do have those available. The standard weight of the brass float used in the 1904 is 13 grams and can't weigh more than 14 grams in order to function correctly.

If the leakage is due to the bowl/main body interface, then no doubt it needs a gasket. But it will also need to have the main body "resurfaced" or it will continue to leak even with a new gasket. If you simply tighten the retaining screws you will crack the main body rendering it useless going forward.

If you have us rebuild the carb, we can give you every assurance that when you receive it back it will be correct and functional with no leaks or any other problems.

Thanks - who do I call and what's the turn around time? I'll air mail the suka if I have to send it in.

All costs associated with this type work are in this thread:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/new-products-IH-only/3479-IH-only-north-fuel-systems-shop.html

You can ship the carb directly to me:

michael mayben
IH Parts America-oregon
42790 leaburg dr.
Leaburg, or 97489

be sure to include your email address so I can update you as to it's status.

Don't use "air mail", I use usps priority flat rate boxes (normal 2 day delivery) for all shipping from my end, that carb will fit in the "medium" box and return shipping to you will add $10.50. I will let you know of the total cost once it's complete, you then call ihon and provide a credit card number for payment. Once I receive my copy of the paid invoice I'll ship directly back to you.

The phone number for ihon in Grass Valley, CA is:

530.268.0864, winter hours are 7:30a>4:30p, m>f.

Thanks for considering ihon for your service needs!

Turnaround on a 1904 right now is about 8 days.

Not quite yet, I'm going to get the manifold resurfaced. The symptoms keep pointing towards some kind of vacuum leak. So I'm taking care of that one at a time.
Thanks for askin.

Thanks for the info, when the time comes I'll email and send it off. I need to get my Christmas shopping done first and if there is enough left over .... If not I'll have to lump it out til January

Your carburetor has been ready for a few days but I was just able to get the test vehicle inside the shop again this morning to run it.

It's ready to go, but I can't read your return shipping address on the box you sent it in originally.

Call Jeff or michael at ihon and make payment arrangements in the amount of $145.95. They will send me a copy of the invoice for my records later.

The carburetor will be shipped to you tomorrow (Friday).

Here's a pic of it actually running an hour or so ago.

Actually the carb was fairly clean internally. The fuel bowl leakage was caused by a poor fit up of the cork gasket.

I made the repair to the throttle lever/shaft. The vacuum fitting and the fuel inlet fitting has been re-sealed so make sure when you connect the fuel hose you support the fitting with a backup wrench.

The big issue...two of the three main well bleeds inside the tiny passages were plugged with something. So the access ports for those were drilled out, the holes restored, and it was resealed.

Runs perfectly right now.

Make certain you have a fresh fuel filter installed before the fuel pump and another one installed before the fuel inlet at the carb.
