152 4-cyl Horsepower Options?

I'm sure this has probably been covered elsewhere in the forum, and yes I did try to search the threads for relevant info.
I have a 1962 Scout 80 that I'm doing a mild restoration on, but want to keep the original drivetrain which is the 152 and the 3-speed tranny and d-!8 twin stick.

I plan on having my local shop rebuild the motor, but I'm curious if there are any aftermarket hp things I can do to get past the rated hp of 93?
I'm pretty sure I will be adding the d.u.I. Ignition and a header to the fresh motor, but is there anything else out there, or any ideas to gain some extra hp?

Would re-gearing the axles help?

Did you see these? Dui is one of several distributor options to consider. Happy reading!

I have a dui for sale, only used its couple of times before I got my hands on a Chevy 4.3 I'll be replacing my 152 with. Let me know of you are interested $400 with livewires.

I'm fairly happy with my 152 although I left the compression and carburetion stock because it will be put on steroids soon.

It has some mild porting, a cam and a solid performance tune up.
Factory 4.88 gears, 32" tires and a warn overdrive and the stock t90+ t18. I'm happy with it. Its been to mammoth a few times and big bear many times. The grades are a work out but with the large choice of gear ratios the od affords it climbs easily.

Now to your choices...
Compression- 9 or 9.5:1
cam- 202-206 duration @ .050
porting/valve bowl clean up both intake and exhaust.
Carb- the weber progressive conversion works well. Improves both low end and top end power.
The header will help at the upper power ranges. Despite what people say it will make more power with one and a good choice of muffler.
Valve spring pressure should be 85# seat. New stock springs will work if setup correctly. 1.825" installed height should get it.
Total gains with these additions will be 20% +/-
more cam will make more hp but wilt a sacrifice in low end power.
Stock ignition is fine for a stock to mild mill but your best ignition system will be to convert the distributer to a pertronix and add a msd 6a box and the recommended coil. Nothing will make better power

Thank you Robert. Not being a gearhead per se, I'm going to print out your build suggestions for the engine shop.
It sounds as though you're pretty happy with your 152. I just didnt want to go through what I assume would be a monster chore to fabricate in a small v8 (Chevy 350?). I had a '77 sc II with a 152-4 speed, and it was fine except for a few steep grades (highway driving).
Plus I think this old beast deserves to be kept as original as possible.

Thanks again!

I know this is little old but if upgrading the carb and ignition you May want to look at the efi.
With a fuel injection system you get computer controlled ignition and fuel that constantly corrects itself for better mpg's for not much more than the carb and distr upgrade.
It really woke up my all original 61 Scout with 152.
