100 Buck Truck Update

I have the "noisy" valve train on the passenger side as well. My mechanic wants to get some more miles on the engine. He has adjusted and ground some on the valves and has lessened the noise somewhat. It does come and go and does not rattle at idle. This is on my rambler motor.

About time ya showed up here dave! Welcome to the right place to be!

A ramblermotor with "the noise"??? Yawl shore it ain't timing chain rattle? Them timing cover/oil pump setups are real problematic also.

A ramblermotor is a whole different basket uv snakes as compared to a dam IH tractor motor!

After Mike an Dad's last work session, I had a bit of a "to do" list and Dad wanted the truck mobile for the up coming body shop workshop. So, today I installed another new fuel pump and new master cylinder. The fuel pump has me baffled. When I originally built the engine I had what I call the long arm pump. The pump arm looks longer and had a more gentle angle to it. Then I had fuel supply problems and I went and bought a new carter 6959. This is what I called the "short arm pump". The arm appreared shorter and had a more drastic angle to it. So, time to replace it again. I purchased a carter 6959 and ended up with the long arm pump again!! I said what the heck and installed it.

Then I moved to the master cylinder, I had a cardone 20-1494 sitting around that I believe colin rush gave me, and installed it. Once Dad and I figured out how to use his new motive pressure bleeder, we bled the brakes with no trouble. It worked very nicely once we got all the in and outs down. Just crack the bleeders and wait for the fuild to run clear then move onto the next one.

One I had it all buttoned up we pulled fuel using out little electric pump through the two filters, then plumbed the line back to the carb. Once the carb was filled the truck fired right off into it's high idle and there it sat running right along!! I was ecstatic!! We let it warm up and kicked it down to it's low lump and backed it out of the garage. Dad told me to take it up and down the street. I have never driven that truck with a correctly working fuel system. Now that all those bugs are worked out, damn that truck has some get up and go!! The secondaries open and throw you into the seat until I lost my nerve and backed out of them. I parked the truck with a huge smile on my face and went into dinner. After dinner we cleaned out the bed and pulled it back into the garage. Again it fired right up and ran just like it should.

I am super happy now!! Thank you again Mike for all your help!

don't you love it when a plan comes together?

No shit Mark...this plan has been coming together for going on three years, one transmission, two engines, and mighty nastee fuel supply system! And we've gone from almostreal gasoline to alkeegazz so now everythang changes agin. And it's still worthy of it's name!

And a proper exhaust system is gonna have ya movin' outta the apartment and into a tent pitched in the bed...or a basement.

Terry's backazzwards carb May not stay on top though. I am real pleased with the throttle response out of it but the reverse idle system just May not be the best setup with that cam. I have another carb plan for it in the works now...but I don't wanna stick that on the holes until there is a functional exhaust system installed.

The real test is if it'll make it from the south waldo rv park...to wilsonville...and back again without callin' aaa.
