After Mike an Dad's last work session, I had a bit of a "to do" list and Dad wanted the truck mobile for the up coming body shop workshop. So, today I installed another new fuel pump and new master cylinder. The fuel pump has me baffled. When I originally built the engine I had what I call the long arm pump. The pump arm looks longer and had a more gentle angle to it. Then I had fuel supply problems and I went and bought a new carter 6959. This is what I called the "short arm pump". The arm appreared shorter and had a more drastic angle to it. So, time to replace it again. I purchased a carter 6959 and ended up with the long arm pump again!! I said what the heck and installed it.
Then I moved to the master cylinder, I had a cardone 20-1494 sitting around that I believe colin rush gave me, and installed it. Once Dad and I figured out how to use his new motive pressure bleeder, we bled the brakes with no trouble. It worked very nicely once we got all the in and outs down. Just crack the bleeders and wait for the fuild to run clear then move onto the next one.
One I had it all buttoned up we pulled fuel using out little electric pump through the two filters, then plumbed the line back to the carb. Once the carb was filled the truck fired right off into it's high idle and there it sat running right along!! I was ecstatic!! We let it warm up and kicked it down to it's low lump and backed it out of the garage. Dad told me to take it up and down the street. I have never driven that truck with a correctly working fuel system. Now that all those bugs are worked out, damn that truck has some get up and go!! The secondaries open and throw you into the seat until I lost my nerve and backed out of them. I parked the truck with a huge smile on my face and went into dinner. After dinner we cleaned out the bed and pulled it back into the garage. Again it fired right up and ran just like it should.
I am super happy now!! Thank you again Mike for all your help!
