Hey for anyone interested I will post my winter build up/make over here. Over view is jim mulis is building a hot 392 stats 345 heads milled and ported on a three axis milling machine, custom pistons using Chevy rings (thinner so will spin up faster) will be balanced and blue printed ect. Ect. Motor will be ready in about 2 weeks. I have a IH 5spd with the 633:1 first gear and an adapter to marry a round pattern transfer case, I did have a NP205 but now I am installing a 4spd atlas. I got a deal from Jeff so I pulled the trigger on the big dollar tcase. I chatted with Jeff today am thinking to case will be ready in about 2 to 3 weeks. Next week the Scout is headed over to westfab for cage work Dana is a fabricator here in billings I have him check and do cage work (he is nhra cert.) cage is all dom and I just want it beefed up because of the build timing.
Scout already has ox lockers, 4:88s and four linked frt and rear. I will try and post pictures as I go. I will post two to start one before the roll:dita: one after the roll:mad5: was doing a hill with a friend when the truck flipped over backwards and rolled three times. I have put new sheet metal on the frt, new terra top, and pound out the quarters. A few more stats are carbo seats, cutting brakes, on board welder, on board air, full vdo gages and hopefully Jeff will build up a serp belt system.
I welcome all questions and commits as I am hoping this build will be complete in about a month:icon_mrgreen: and oh yes I bought this Scout new so it has been done over years. It is on the third major rework:icon_mrgreen: Robert

Hella subscribed!:winky: man, you didn't go with the t-35 5 spd with a 7.xx first gear instead? :nono: this will be interesting seeing how the 5spd will fit in the Scout. I will be watching intently.

My bad the 5spd is a t35 with the 7.xx low, the only pia is revirse. I had it in there years ago with the NP205, looking for more gears:icon_mrgreen: I will post up as I get going.

Well Jeff sent me the case it is bad ass, but high dollar. I am still waiting for my motor jim mullis is building it and last we talked it was out for balance. Here are a few pictures of the SSII, engine removed, tranny, and the atlas:icon_mrgreen: in one shot you can see the shaft and mounting boss for the atlas. I am going to tryand mate the tranny and case tommorrow, it is some heavy junk to move around the shop. I spent a couple hours hooking up the shifters and insuring the range box works.

Here is a shot of the frt of the motor, I am trying to talk Jeff into building me a serp belt system for it. So if you look close you will see air compressor for onboard air, one wire alt, welder, and power steering pump.

Ok this will not be as easy as I had though:mad5: that's always the way, aa has a big warning about the shaft bottoming out in the case. I measured several times looks good on paper but it is bottoming out with about an inch gap. I will dive more into it tomorrow (hate the idea of cutting the bid dollar shaft).

Then next issue will be shifters, I have lots of room beside the tranny, but it looks like they will be to wide for the hump. Next issue will be the cage seat mounts I hate the idea of having to cut the tubes. If you look at the shot between the seats there are cutting brake levers and the ox shifters. I am thinking worst case I will have to use cable shifters more money:icon_eek:

Ok time for an intermission, got some issues that need attention before I can keep going with the 5spd. First up my frame off Scout needs the gas gage adjusted run out of fuel at 85% digital gages, also I bought a nice fuel cap that I will be installing. Lastly I have a frt parking light that comes on with the brake light, thinking its in the colom? I am hoping to get this done in the next couple days.

Then I will be doing this terra real quick to help with the budget. I bought it for 1500, it is a very clean low mile roll over. I am going to replace both quarters, have it painted and sell it. I have most of the parts on hand, I will get the quarters from Jeff and get it done on the quick:icon_mrgreen:

I have a very low mile 34 short box pickup in the shop I have been slowly working on also, and here is a shot on the 61 scouts that I would love to get to soon. They both came from a ranch here in montana, the one on the left has zero rust on the floors and is unmolested. I guess a full plate is a good thing:icon_eek:

Do you have a sorce for steel terra/traveler quarters? I thought only 100" Scout II were available.

I'm thinking I will have to use glass, I see sss has them for 250.00 shipping will be a killer I'm guessing. I would prefer to throw the business at Jeff.

I have seen 100" quarters used with extra steel spliced in to them. Maybe you could salvage 18" of that crunched quarter? Is the other side worse?

I am looking to do this right, so I am thinking to replace both sides will be the way to go. I have a friend that does really, really, nice paint. He has painted my travelette and my frame off project. He had over 100 hours of body work in each of them with no rust issues and very little plastic. I will be putting the Scout on the market after it all done. I will be hoping to get over 10,000 for it as it is one of the nicest teras I have seen.

Back to the atlas for a minute, I called aa on Friday chatted about the 3/4 inch gap after transfer case bottomed out on the shaft. Steve (great guy) told me this is very common and sold me a spacer from stock. Also talked about the fact that my adpt. Is two inches thick and with the spacer studs would have to be about three inches long. I had in mind to use grade 8 bolts, he recommended I use grade 8 threaded rod to insure the case had full thread engagement, I also ordered the rod so I will finish the mock up near the end of the week.

Ok time for an update, the tera is complete except for the quarter panel, I have a trucker buddy that has it in msp. I did find an nos tera replacement and when Tom can get a load this way I will finish the tera up. For an update on it, I replaced bout doors with rust free doors, I replaced the windshield frame with a rust free unit, and I went ahead and replaced both front fenders with rust free units I scrounged up here. I went ahead and replaced the grill and lower valance also. I had my upholstery guy recover the seats and door panels, he found the same plaid cloth that was used on the seats when they were new. Happy to report I have all new weather striping and stripes from Jeff earlier than needed as usual. Hoping to get this one rapped up and down the road soon:yesnod:

Ok too update the SSII, I picked up the motor from jim maulis and it is:icon_cool: here is a picture of the new rockers always had an issue with using used ones on a new motor. I have to re size pictures to post them here. I have posted motor pictures over on the pirate board also. I will be resizing the pictures as I get a chance, but I have just installed the motor, finishing up the plumbing a bitch because there is so much to deal with, I am doing all new lines. The Scout has hydro boost, and ram asst. Steering, with a filter and cooler on the power steering circuit. I had all steel braided lines but they had been on there for some years and the broken strains were hard to deal with, you would get poked reaching around the engine.
