Radiator Isolation Mounting by MM

Here's a couple more pictures, one showing the sleeved rubber bushing and the other showing the angle iron and rubber bushings supporting the bottom. The angle iron could be wider, it's all we could find on short notice.

Seams like tying the two inner fender/ core support together at the bottom just above the frame would be sufficiently stout. The tubing used shouldn't block too much airflow.

Quick question, when you enlarged the holes to fit the hump on th bushing half, did you go off the center of the mount slot or measure the distances on the mount holes and center up that way. Im thinking of using a step bit to enlarge the holes and backing up the mount with a piece of wood to Mark the centers and guide the bit.

I simply enlarge the existing holes in the radiator side frames using a drill bit or uni-bit, whatever I have close at hand. Those holes don't have to be super-accurate, just larger to allow insertion of the urethane biscuit half.!

Installation of isolators went good. Gotta pull the headlites to get the jamb nuts on the bolts and its done. Ill damn sure put her through the paces in the next few weeks and see if its gonna hold.
Great thread and this mod is easy. Thanks for the great info, this forum is a priceless resource for the IH world.

When I installed my aluminum radiator a few years back I figured I would get cracks at some point due to all the relative movement on the mounting uprights left and right. Now that I see some cracking I am looking to add 2 isolators for each mounting point by creating a new mounting hole (on the radiator) closer to the core at each of the 4 mounting points. The second image below just shows a mockup of the orientation. I will need to remove the radiator attachment point that is shown there. Thoughts on this are appreciated.

Hi Dan long time no see! I'm thinking if you installed a couple of those rubber standoffs in your picture on the tops of the holes in the gussets located at the front of the frame rails, then bolted a piece of flat stock across and above the brake line with some thin rubber on top of the flat stock to support the weight of the radiator, the supports you have pictured at the top of the radiator would probably be sufficient. I don't worry too much about my frame rails moving up front with that heavy 4 1/2" section of pipe the P.O. welded to my frame rails for a bumper.

Interesting thought on that concept. But, kind of difficult to use that idea, like in my case. I'm currently using those two holes for both my X-cross brace and my front winch bumper. Next time you see my '72 yellow scout, you'll see.

I like the idea. I'll have to think about it though. The bottom of my radiator is a good 4 in. above the top of my frame. Maybe I could look into supporting a piece of channel stock between the two sides and using rubber cradles on either side to support the bottom of the radiator.

We should plan on getting together at The Smokin' Pig sometime in the near future. Or maybe we could meet up at Hollister some weekend.

Any time on the weekends, I'm fairly open to either one. During the week, it has been a little hectic for me to head down, due to my work schedule

Wold love to hit Hollister. Now that I have the capability, my scout needs a little work out
