5 or 6 Speed Transmisson Replacement

I have a 1969 1200D AWD with the original 4 speed and transfercase with 4.10 rear gears. The current transmission desperately needs a rebuild due to excessive leaks.

Is there any manual transmission that is a replacement for the factory 4 speed that adds an extra gear or 2?

Or is it worth trying to rebuild the current one?

The only transmission with an overdrive top gear that is a bolt on to the IH SV8 engines is the Fuller T-34 aka T-494 aka code 13494. They are somewhat hard to find. Any other transmission is going to be direct drive in top gear just like what you already have. Fifth gear direct drive in a five speed is no different than 4th gear direct drive in a four speed.

We currently do have a T-34 5 speed overdrive transmission in stock with the matching bellhousing. They are pretty rare. Cost would be $1400 plus shipping and that includes the bell housing. See pictures. We also offer a conversion for putting a modern NV4500 5 speed with overdrive in your truck. The adapter kit for the transmission is $614.95 plus you have to source the transmission (or we can sell you one all ready to go with adapter installed). Here's a link to the kit -CPT NV4500 Adapter Kit

Hey Jeff,
What condition is the T-34 in? Any history on it that you could share?

Give me a call when you can. You may know the person I got it from. I don't quite remember if he had rebuilt it or not but it was sold to me as a good transmission. Looks good on the inside but you never know unless a full teardown is performed.
