I just bought a 1979 Scout here's the ad. As you can see its in pretty rough condition it was running when the guy parked it but it hasn't ran in a few years any tips on getting it going ?

Well she my first car so I'm hoping to get her running and use her for my daily driver with some offroading on the side with (mainly mud)this is my first real go at truck like this so any advice would be really helpful

Others will chime in im sure. But if shes been parked too long dont hop in and try and crank her over.

From my experience most old trucks want to run. Just havent had the right p.o.

Hopefully you'll get her runnin and you can go from there. Id build a rollbar and get a bikini top so least you have some protection from the elements....hood wouldnt be a bad idea either lol

Welcome to the forum. That goose definitely hasn't honked in awhile. It has a '75 grille...doesn't necessarily mean its a '75 since grilles do get swapped around, but it could be. With the hood missing, did the po make any effort to cover the top of the engine? Does it at least have the air filter canister in place? I'd be most worried about heavy moisture contamination and corrosion inside the engine from direct exposure to the elements for x number of years. Have you pulled the dipstick to see what the oil looks and smells like? Resist the urge to simply turn on the juice and see what shakes loose. Dead dawgs should be revived gently. There's a pdf file attachment that explains the process in detail. You'll find it in post #3 of the middle link below. You need to spend some time reading through some of the stickied threads in this forum, starting with these:

Good find and good luck on the build buddy! The folks here are great and will help you as much as they can. What engine is in her?

Well you'll need a welder a grinder some sheet metal, cut out the cancer area, an patch away, or find yourself a good parts truck, or just simply buy the piece you need I know they sell used body parts here
