Back and Better

Hey all

it's been a few deployments and a couple of years since I posted last, not to mention worked on my 75 Scout II xlc 345. However, I bought a Holley 2300 and replaced the old carb (2210) today and whalaa.....she's running pretty good. It ran before, but very erratic.

Had to do some basic troubleshooting to get it running. I accidentally ran her dry and couldn't get her running after I put 4 gallons in her. Got on the forum to get some advice. Came across some info about priming the fuel pump. Not sure I did it correctly, but she's running. My skills are at the novice level at max.

Got to bleed the brakes and then I'll take her around the block and see how she does.

Take care,
murch

Welcome back and thanks for your service! Glad you got it running again. You'll be a lot happier with your new carb, guaranteed. Basically what I do when there's no fuel in the carb bowl is I carefully pour a small amount down into the carb and hit the key. That gets the engine to fire up with a minimum of starter cranking, but it might take more than once before enough fuel makes its way from the tank to the carb to keep the engine running.

You're welcome scoutboy74. Thanks for responding. I'm perusing the forums researching for more tinkering. My ultimate goal is to get the wife to ride in the truck.....haha. She hates it. More to come.....

Welcome. I also have a 75 Scout II with a 345. If you want her to like it don't take her for a ride, let her drive it. If its tuned up to humming she won't be able to resist all that "move it or lose it " power. ;) lol

Haha.....I got her in it today, but I was evil about it.....I had my 6 year old son play the sweet little boy card. He asked her to ride with us around the block. Chaching....she bit. She complained about the gas smell (it's running Rich right now). If that's the worst, then I've got it good.

Hell thats how we know they are running right? If I cant smell it I get concerned.

Its good to have you back sir and thank you for your service.

Also from what I understand 6 year olds are quite gassy so when in doubt, shift the blame, remember its never your IH's fault :nono:

Way to go. Now u just tell her if it was a newer fancier vehicle ud have to possibly fix that gas smell with an expensive new sensor or a 75 dollar an hour mechanic bill but since it's a Scout youre gonna fix it by turning a couple screws or at the worst with $12 for smaller jets. :) it might seal the deal! Lol I think I rebuilt my whole carb for only $60. Can't argue with that math.

Atta boy. Hey, its chit chat here, so I won't take this into the techy realm. If/when you want some help tuning the carb, post a thread in the carb tech section. Be sure to include the list number. Shouldn't be too tough to get it dialed in and less gassy. Oh what a relief it is.

Welcome back and thank you for your service!!! Now post some pics up this new guy can see your Scout, lol. Sincerely, thanks again.

Thanks again for your service. If you really want her to like it, if she's like mine, tell her to wear a sports bra and then take her wheeling and let her drive. Trust me it's as addicting for her as it is for you.

Thanks scoutboy74. It's been many of your posts that I've read to help me. Thanks for all your contributions.

Fdchappie, you're welcome. I laughed out loud when I thought of telling my wife "put yer sports bra on, wur goin wheelin" her response would be classic.

Welcome back murch and thank you for your service. My wife loves the Scout. I'm not sure why but we try to take it out at least once a month. Almost done with tranny problems so that's good. I left another post on your fuel fill tube. Danny

That's awesome man! I didn't grow up in ms but, it's definitely my home. I'll be buried here lord willing. I have family in hattiesburg so lumberton is just a hop and a skip away. You ever get back out this way let me know. It would be an honor to shake your hand! Considering moving back? I need more binder owners around here, lol.

I get back about once a year. Don't have any plans to move back to ms, but I will always call it home. Might end up leaving my Scout at my Mom's if we have to move again.
