Heater Core

It's a 66 3/4 tone and no heater core. I've been wearing out google trying to find one. Several different photos of them and I'm confused what it should look like. Trying to keep as close to stock as possible, I hate cobbling. It would be easy to get something and make it work. Anybody help???

The IH parts catalogs I have access to don't cover this model year. I'd give IHPA a call in the morning to see what they might have available in serviceable, used condition.

Hi,
if you have the same heater box as in a 62 3/4 ton truck, you can see the heater core and other internals in this link:

http://forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/en...9444-please-help-how-r-n-r-heater-system.html

That has the correct heater core for that heater box, but the wrong heater control valve. I'll be posting a picture of the correct heater valve there as soon as I get it.

There were at least two different heater boxes used in 62 -68 cabs. Don't know which one you have. If you want, I can post a picture of just the heater core when I rebuild the box in a couple weeks.

I tried the store here, and they don't have the heater core or valve for my box.

Hope this helps.

Steve

Here's pics of my heater box innard, similar but mine I belive goes through the firewall more to the right as facing the firewall. Also has different control valve. I have a picture of what I believe would be a correct core but I can't find it again.

Hi,
I have exactly the same heater box, but controls are different. Notice mine has doors that direct heat either out the front or to the side above the fan cage for the defrost. You can see the control cable in back that comes down and under the heater hose for that. However, I do not have the correct heater valve or correct water output location for that box.

Jeff, if you have a second nos heater core, let me know. Give your first one to sailsailor as I was planning to take mine to a radiator shop anyway. However, I am looking for a new heater control valve. What do you have available? You seem to have everything ...

That genesis auto parts heater core looks correct, except the top tube looks too long. I'll take some measurements tomorrow.

The same basic heater was used from the '50's through the end of the production run of the loadstars/fleetstars.

It was simple in design and could be used in many applications. I wouldn't be surprised if ihc used the same basic unit in tractors that had cabs.

If you can't find what you need you May want to go the jc whitney route. flex-a-lite mojave heaters - jcwhitney

Those control valves can be rebuilt, I did that with mine years ago. They were used in other cars as well, just different configurations. You really don't even need it, but then hot water would be going through the core all the time.

Hi
that genesis auto parts core looks almost like the correct heater core. The tube on the bottom is correct but the top tube should only go up about 1.5 inches, then make a 90 degree turn for another 2.5 inches.

I May have a complete heater box to sell. One is supposed to be included in a shipment of a lot of parts I bought. But I won't know it's condition until it arrives, probably in about two weeks. If you don't have something decent by then, send me a message as I don't need two of them.

If they were used for so many years, it seems as though there should be some type of source for new or rebuilt cores.

I have an email in to genisis asking about that particular picture, don't know if I'll hear back but I'm trying. Right on if they were used so much why not more aftermarket, tis a cunundrum indeed. Lots of little parts I'm needing, clutch and brake pedal pads, new floor covering, door hinges, tail light lenses, and more. It's a challenge but I still love driving the truck.

Hi,
I found a company that manufacturers IH heater cores for the cargostar, paystar and loadstar trucks of the 60's and 70's. And for those trucks they are still available new for about $100 with free shipping and a 1 year warranty.

I sent them an email to see if they also have them available for our pick-up trucks. The only difference is the configuration of the inlet tube. In the end, if they won't custom-make one for you, you might just have to buy one of those and have a radiator shop bend and cut the inlet tube so its shorter and exits your heater box at the proper location.

Don't know if I'm allowed to post their web site as they also make Scout II and IH 69-73 pick-up truck heater cores, which might conflict with Jeff's business. But I'll let you know what they say.

I think genisis is just a reseller of them, and not the manufacturer. Our heater core part number is 872-425-r91.

Ok, new update. I just got a reply from that company. Here it is in it's entirety :

" we purchase our heater cores from the manufacturer vista-pro. They nor we have a cross for the 872425r91. "

other than contacting vista-pro, not sure how much farther we can take this. For me, if we can't find a new one, I'm just going to have a radiator shop repair mine. I'll take some measurements next week when I'm off work to determine for certain which loadstar style core fits best, then if you buy one of them, you just need a radiator shop to cut shorter and bend the input tube for your box.

I came across another thread several years old where someone else was looking for a 872425r91 core. He ordered it from napa only to have his order cancelled as it was no longer available then.

Wow, this is one rare bird. Summer is near in socal so not much need for it now. I'll sure be checking the highways and byways on the return trip to michigan in May. The search continues.
