Hey guys I am trying to finish up my Scout and get it road worthy and ready too go! I am literally down to the last few hours before we crank it up. But I have a wire going from my distributor that is has two different prong type parts I guess you could call them. Sorry im still a young mechanic. :icon_xp: a guy I know said it goes to the distributor, but there is no insert. The cable cant be any longer than 18 inches off the top of my head. Haven't had the chance to look at it the past day or so, been working too much. Ill try to post a pic soon but ill probably forget. But I need to know where this goes and im wondering if you had any ideas.

The wire from the distributor, if it is a prestolite, I believe should go to the + and - terminals on the coil.

A picture would help to identify the item in question, as your description is a bit vague. Don't feel bad. We've all been there. Fortunately today's technology can step in when our own deficiencies in terminology let us down. Being that your Scout is a 1980 model, it would have been originally equipped with a prestolite electronic ignition. If this is still the case, the dist cap will have male connectors for the plug wires and there will be three 14ga wires exiting the housing...a red, a brown and a white wire. The red and brown wires are roughly a foot long with ring terminals that attach to the coil, while the white wire is very short with an insulated female bullet connector on it.

This is the connector

Perhaps there is an aftermarket ignition in the distributor. How about a pic of the dizzy guts would help.
