Any one ever had trouble with the Dana-20 “jumping” out of 4 low while going up long steep hills ?

Yeah, I had this problem. It happened because my SOA caused a u-joint bind when the front end would lift too much. I didn't figure it out until I'd destroyed some low range gears:(

it can also be caused by a bad tranny mount, bad body mounts, failing motor mounts, bad transfer case bearings, even bad gears in the transfer case. Sometimes, it's a simple as bad springs in the ball & poppet system on the shift rods.

Joe d is correct it can be caused by all sorts of things. I had a badly worn bull gear that caused mine. This May be overkill but now when I go wheeling, just as a precaution, I use a ratchet strap to hold my shifter in 4lo.

Here is what happened when this guy's t-case popped out of gear.
