Just wanted to put up some before pics of my "beast" little history...wife bought it for me for my birthday while I was in afghanistan (I was always talking how I used to have a 73 Scout II that I loved so much) po said it was running, just cold blooded, found out engine was toast (machine shop said .060 over "might" save it) decided to by a "recently running" 392 out of Travelall...got hosed on that one, but have been rebuilding it, pics included looks like I should have that put back together in the next few weeks. Gonna drop it in and see what shakes out. After going over the Scout it pretty much needs every piece of sheet metal worked on or replaced, interior was used to haul dead fish around, I think, pretty chewed up. By the grace of god, some bleeding knuckles and IH Parts America I'm going to fix this thing up to daily driver status, not gonna let it rot in a junk yard. Wish me luck

Here are some pics of my parts pile....needless to say the wife is not happy about the state the garage is in, especialy since winter is coming and she wants here bloody kia in there. I'll probably be getting rid of some of this later on, shipping charges suck to/from alaska however.
Oh, and I'm looking for a new sticker for the rear window...any suggestions?

Hang in there bud! You're pile of parts doesn't look any worse than what I've had. In fact, you've got enough stuff there to build 1.5 motors. Looks like you're on your way. The base motor pool shop looks dialed in! But if it was easy, everyone would be driving these things!

I would gladly ship myself to the frigid north if you needed to get rid of somma them quality rocker assemblies... But then I'd be stuck in alaska with heavier pockets :d

I'm really just interested in having at least one sv with the non-cheep rocker arms, but I don't have the resources or the accessibility to accomplish such things at the moment - more of a long-term hope. I sure appreciate the gesture, though!

Not really from alaska, born and raised in northern California, petaluma to be exact. I have family in chico and sacramento among other places. Just up here while im in the army. Let me know if you need them, got extra in the basement, some of the rocker shafts are a bit worn down though.

Had the Scout at the auto craft shop, working on it when I had the time, last night some jack a** decides to do a brake job, doesnt check his brakes before gunning it to get out of the bay, guess what? No brakes, slams into my Scout, destroys the tailgate, tailight assembly, inner and outer quarter panel, bends up the top, wrecks rear floor pan......heard rumor this guy has been in three accidents recently and has no inurance.....I just got no luck.....

It was running today! Thanks to mr. Mayben and the folks at IH only. Finaly got the parts put together and fired her up for about 40 minutes today, was running a bit rough, got some things smoothed out, has a decent idle, think the timing needs more tweaking, running open headers and she sounded like a beast! Actually moved under her own power for the first time in months. Cant wait till next weekend to get back to tweaking....none of the guages work though, dash wiring is a total mess!

What in world was the idiot driving that would hit your Scout so high and do so much damage?
Did the guy make it right or are you going to have to just count it as your tough luck?
Not that the snow is starting to fly I hope you get to drive your Scout in the type of conditions it was designed to excell.

It was pretty depressing, that part of the Scout was the only part without major dents....the guy hit a pick up frame and axels that was being taken apart, had a raised flatbed on it that he pushed into mine. Insurance will take care of it, have to get the thing running so I can bring it in to get an estimate. Hopefully they dont try and write the whole truck off. Hopefully next weekend I can get it running well enough to drive again, still need to fine tune it, fix a couple of coolant leaks from hose clamps that need adjusting and weld on the exhaust. Brakes need some lovin too, they are pretty scary right now..lol

Replaced front wheel bearings....im gonna say that the axle shafts should probably not wiggle around in the axle tubes 1/4 inch up and down, front to back......
