......a full manual, reverse pattern "race" IH 727.
This will be going in a lighten sii racer, 392 in front (pretty much stock, rebuilt and strong) with a possible much more built mill in the future. D20 will be hanging off the back, racing ratchet or gate style shifter.
Use will be short-track tuff truck style racing, probably some mud drags and hopefully some longer "desert like" stuff down the road. Constant on-and-off the throttle. Ridd'n hard, put away wet. I think I want full compression braking in all gears, but not 100% on that. It will also probably see some occasional trail riding and recreational dune running.
I plan on taking one of my "junk yard" 727's I have laying around (of unknown condition), doing a complete rebuild, and installing the parts necessary to get what I want.
So I need recommendations:
rebuild kits - best bang for the buck while not sacrificing quality.
Tb replacement - again, best bang for the buck while not sacrificing quality.
Mod/replacement recommendations while I'm in there - (vents, sprags etc)
I don't have a ton of money to sink into this. But my last tranny was a "jy" 727 behind a tired 304 that I did nothing to other than keep topped off in fluid. It got the job done but I have my suspicions it really helped the 304 be a dog or atleast wasn't doing me any favors. With this race truck v2.0 I'd like to but something a little more known back there.
If I lived closer to mayben I'd probably sweet talk him into atleast walking me through one or begging, pleading, guilting (or bribing or trading) him into building one for me, but alas the distances are to great. Rick pratt and snohomish transmission isn't too far from me, but even with any sort of "old club" or "friend" discount, he's too expensive for me. So I suspect I'll be doing this myself in the garage. Oh, ya, this will be the first auto I've been into. I've been told it isn't rocket science. Just keep things clean, and put them back in in the correct order.
