Hello, gonna try to hit the 'con Friday August 26th with my Jeep, scoutaddicts scoutii, a couple toyotas, and a couple sami's. Not sure which end we are going in, most likely camping at buck from either side, but more will be posted. Also possible we May have to go up Friday night after work, instead of the usual morning plan. Antone want to go?

We are heading in(myself and scoutaddict) along with 2 toys and 2 samis, going in from loon sat am, guessing about 8-9.

Some of our group will be camping Friday night at loon, 3 of us will go up from vallejo and napa meeting in cordelia between 4-5am Saturday (not decided on the exact times yet).

If you see this rig, that's us. Hopefully you don't see us broke down!!!

I'm looking at going up Saturday (the 27th) in the morning in my 74 Scout. I been itching to take it out all week. Especially now that I just completed the SOA conversion last week

Got a giggle out of scoutaddict's reply. I'm planning on heading up with ya guys. Now that I know my Scout is capable, from the most recent trip to hollister, a few days ago. Which is the first time that I have been able to actually take this Scout off-road since I got it free about 8 years ago. And prolly the first time ever that this particular Scout has been off-road in it's 37 year life span.

Hey scooter! Any luck with the head gasket? We have changed the meeting time from 4:30am to 5:00 am at cordelia. Susuin valley rd exit, burger king/chevron/shell, they are all right there.
3 towed rigs, and you, if you make it. Anyone else? Pm me or Scout addict w/number, or show up. Parking at the chalet, meeting some guys to go in at loon 8-930ish.

As of last night a new head gasket is in place, and got started adjusting the roller rockers. Got late last night and I was hungry and tired, so I called it a night around 9pm. This thing called work and 10 hours a day of that crap tends to get in the way of what I rather be doing, wrenching on the Scout or wheeling it. Hopefully I'll have it running tonight, if not, by mid morning. No work for me on fridays. Still need to re-install the intake & carb. Pluss, I still gotta mount the bumpers I borrowed, along with packing up my gear.

Pretty much need scaffolding to wrench on the engine. Just glad that I've got me an over head electric hoist. Sure made easy work of pulling that heavy arse head off that straight six motor.

I'll give ya a hauler later tonight. Unless I get too wraped up inside the engine bay.

Well - I think that the trip turned out to be a success. I for one had a blast. For being the first time for myself to be on the trail, and the second time that my Scout has ever seen any type of off-roading, since it rolled off the manufacturer's floor in 74, at least that I know of. Over all, I'm happy how my rig handled, except for carb issues at that elevation. Kept on stalling at the steeper inclines, trying to climb over a few of the larger boulders. I know - get efi - but money is too funny at the moment to consider it right now.

Thanks for the hospitality. And, scoutaddict, thanks for the loan of the bumpers, even though I didn't find the need to put it to use, since I didn't get stuck or brake anything. I'll return them prolly with in a few weeks once I get my winch mounted. Better to be safe with it and not need it than need it and not have it. If I didn't have the carberation issues, I would have gone furthur in the trail.

Edit***
on the drive up, in my Scout, and crawling around on the trail, I never had any overheating issues. Safe to say that I drove my rig up there, drove it on the trail, and then drove it home (3 -4 hour drive each way), all in one piece with no broken parts. But did ened up 2 battle scares, but ya gotta really look for them to see them - lol
