WIX air filters, a PSA...

Any one else having issues with their products lately? I've been using them for decades and have had nothing but good luck with all types of their filters-----air, oil, gas, et al. But I am very disappointed with them right now. To whit, here's some pics of the #42061 air filter I installed back in October (less than 2500 miles ago). Sixty five percent of the missing black rubber material went straight into my 2210 carb and rendered it completely useless, to the point that I had to replace it with a 2300 series the other day. The other 35% of the rubber I pulled off myself during a couple inspections in the past few months. This is totally unacceptable of course, and I'm gonna contact them next week and see what they have to say for themselves. The lack of quality control is painfully obvious, as you'll see;

So fast forward to last Thursday, when I rebuilt an old 2300 holey that I had in my shop and stuck her on the traveler. Everything went very smooth, truck sounded great, no more leaks or loping or stuttering or running Rich. But before going on a test drive I went over to my kragen/o'reilly's around the corner (where I buy 85% of my stuff) to replace the old wix with a new one. And here's what they gave me. Look familiar?.....

So as you folks can see, their manufacturing process needs some adjustments. Note how thin the rubber gasketing material is on one side, as opposed to the other side. The thin film (looks like it's brushed on almost) is not thick or strong enough to remain on the metal cage, and will most definitely break off and get sucked down the barrels very soon. Note how it looks like the black rubber has been dipped offset to the 'cage' by about a 1/6"---3/32" of an inch. This is very un-good, and I'm going to find another filter today before driving the traveler any more. Just a heads up for you guys.....:d

I recently bought a replacement purolator air filter (for Scout II v8) at pep boys. It is #a40068, and is marked 'made in u.s.a. It seems to be of high quality manufacture. I'll let you know how it holds up after I install it and use it for awhile.
