Window Regulator Question

My drivers side window regulator free-spins and won't lift the window. I swapped cranks between doors to make sure crank wear was not the issue. No joy. I then attached a vice-grip to the regulator shaft and it free-spins but no lifting action. The window is set firmly at about 2" open.

I don't know enough about the regulators to know what the issue is. I have seen some regulator retaining clips on ebay and was wondering if it might have come off and caused this issue.

Any words of wisdom?

Dave

What year truck you have dave ? The bottom of the windows have a track crimped on them, for the reg lever or arm to ride in,need to take the panel off an have a look see.the clips May have rusted away an fell off, Jeff ( heres a rear door on a 60's t'lette, but will give you an idea of how the reg works.)

After removing the door panel, it became obvious that the po tried to fix the problem... There were several holes in the door from a hole saw.

The hinge pin connecting the scissors to the hand crank had fallen out and was in the bottom of the door. The crank and toothed gear moved smoothly. I took a bolt and nylock nut and lightly connected them back together... Still had plenty of slop to allow the contact point to rotate. However, it wouldn't crank at all, so I assume the corrosion is really bad on the slides.

I pried the window up to a closed position, lubed all the rotating and sliding surfaces and left well enough alone. When I get more time, I will see if I can break the slides loose.

I am swapping body parts and motors around, between the 345 air conditioned d200 and the 345 plain jane d100, to get one really good truck and selling the other. So I won't spend a lot of time trying to make a rusted regulator work but would like the next owner to at least have windows that close.

Just for giggles, where do the regulator retaining clips go? I think they are what rusted away but not sure.

Thanks,
dave
