Anyone know a trick to putting the window felt on????? The staple holes don't line up, the staples are a m^%# f^%#$ to push through the felt, and the staples are bigger than the original holes in the metal frame! What a pita!!

I've done a few of them and have not had the issues you describe. A few pictures May help us see what's going on.

What vehicle is this on? On Scout II and d series there are oblong holes/slots with clips that snap into them. It looks to like you're going to need to make new holes to put the staples through. My guess is that when they were done at factory, a industrial stapler was used to punch through both the felt and sheet metal at the same time. This made locations irrelevant and the operator could put the staples anywhere they wanted.

Hows this for an even more stupid question:

how far are the windows supposed to roll down on a 1968 800???
Mine only go a little more than half way.

When installing them I line up the felt on the metal trim piece and drill new holes through the punched holes in the felt. It takes a small drill bit, but it is far easier than putting new holes in the felt itself... The new staples are a tad thicker and I have found that a set of duck bill pliers is the easiest to get them to bend over.
