Has anyone tried running 255/85/r16 on there Travelall without a lift?
My new Travelall came with 245's on it and there just a little on the small size. I like the tall and narrow look of the 255's, especially on these older rigs

On my 68 Travelall 4x4 - no lift, I have the 265x75x16" or about 31.5" diameter. The rims are 8" wide aluminum with the 5 on 5 1/2" bolt circle. Have no problem with the wider and taller tires rubbing the sides of the fender wells.

I think what you will find the issue is what will fit on your rims more than what will fit under your fenders.

With the big-6 lug pattern split rims you are limited in your tire sizes and choices.

Unless your tires are rotten I would run what you have out and wait until you have to purchase new rubber.

By that time you will have saved enough $$$ to either swap to modern axles with the common 8-lug pattern or you will have saved the same $$$ to purchase new big-6 tubeless rims that will let you mount a variety of tire sizes you can't mount now.

By the way, really nice looking rig!
