Whistling Carb

Howdy,

'75 scout II 345v8 auto trans.

I recently rebuilt my Holley 2210 carb. The thing whistles at mid range RPMs. Internet search (including here) state likely causes as, #1 bad gasket at the manifold, #2 internal leak from bad gasket in the carb.

I replaced the manifold gasket, I completely tore the carb down again, inspected all of the old gaskets (all in perfectly fine shape), replaced them with new gaskets, made sure everything was together right, and reinstalled it on the engine (345). Still whistles, exactly the same.

Any body ever solve this puzzle? I can live with it, but it sure sounds wrong. Truck runs great, no issue with performance. I have triple checked for vacuum leaks, sprayed starting fluid around it while running, sprayed it down in wd-40 while running, nothing.

Losing my mind. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

mine does that also. never could figure out why or how. never found a leak. did you change air cleaners? i did and that is my guess to where my whistle comes from. but it is only a guess. been whistling sense 1996, when i changed.
 
I did change air cleaners, but it does it with or without the air cleaner. The hose to the ear trick says the sound is coming from inside the carb.

Perhaps I'll just have to live with it, or eventually replace the carb with a 2300.

I have seen this happen where there is an air gap or 'dead airspace' in the area of the top of the intake manifold, the carb base gasket and the base of the carb. Airflow past that area creates the whistle.
 
Are you suggesting it's pulling air from one side of the intake manifold to the other under the gasket? or sucking air from outside under the gasket. It's definitely not sucking anything in from outside.

Ok, I think I see what you are saying. Basically a gap between the carb body and the gasket, the intake air rushing by causes this whistle. Is that what you were getting at?
