Which way does the rear main go in?

Hi,

I am building a 345 using the fel-pro gasket set from IH Parts America. I am trying to confirm which side of the rear main seal goes in toward the engine.

I have searched the posts. There are comments about rolling the inner lip that imply one orientation, and at least one picture that shows the seal installed the other way.

The seal has orange rubber or silicone with a 3 lip design; one lip is thin and near one surface of the metal frame, the other double lip has hash marks on the interior and a double lip closer to the other side of the frame. Mexico and a part number are stamped on the side by the single lip. This description probably means nothing if you have not seen the seal:smile5:

thanks for your help.

Just in case anyone was curios, see attached.

The sealing element consisting of the lip and reenforcing spring should always be facing the fluid. That's an easy way to remember which way any metal clad seal should be driven.
