Water pump/ fan clutch?

Hi again,
so I order my new water pump with out looking at what style I had on my 73 Scout.
I have the "big nut" styles and I order the 8 boult style. Can I go down to napa and buy a clutch and fan to switch over to the 8 boult style?

Thanks

Nope!

The thread-on style water pumps are certainly available but no new fan clutch is. And also, the thread-on fan clutch uses a fan blade with a particular bolt pattern that does not interchange with the eight-hole fan clutch which is an aftermarket part.

We have several threads regarding this exact scenario in our "engine cooling" sub-forum.

If your thread-on fan clutch is functional, then you need a thread-on water pump, for some reason years ago the database for those water pumps called 'em a "magnetic" clutch or hub. Ther is no magnetisim involved with any of this stuff!

Sounds like you've ordered an 8 bolt water pump. That is what I did on my Scout. A Chevy pickup clutch and fan blade will fit fine. This what is now on the Scout. Sorry but I don't remember what year the application was for. I think early 80's.
