Warenty questions

Hi Jeff,

can you warenty a flame thrower coil that started leaking oil during break in of engine? Barely 5 minutes before I noticed it...

Also have a pertronix ignitor that never fired a spark? Double checked wiring as per instructions and all was well. Took cap off and found smoke! :yikes:
burned a hole in outside center under sticker?

If you can warenty them I will send in for a replacement.

If it's going to cost you money I will just put them in recycling bin...

Definitely call Jeff Monday but I would be very skeptical of a double failure. Leaking oil and a smoked pertronix module would point to a current draw problem. I'm not the deciding entity that would be the warranty department at pertronix.

About 2 miles from my house :hand:

Re: Warranty questions

Coil ran with points and made it through break in of engine. No leaks from coil as it sat on engine overnight. At first I thought I May have overtightened the bracket but it was actually loose enough to slide coil and even if I overtightened it would not crack the top.

What could I have done wrong? I had distributor loose and twisted it with key on, no spark. Turned engine over, no spark. When I first checked it had no spark, checked wiring as per instructions.. I know electrical parts sometimes have no warenty...

But I would really like to figure out what went wrong? Red wire to positive, black to negative, power wire to positive. No ballest resister used as specified in instructions needed with flame thrower coil.

It really not that big a deal other than I'm stumped? Well I guess it's a hundred dollar deal...

Can you see anything I did wrong?

Re: Warranty questions

Mark,

I just got back in town from another show. Let me find out how I go about warranty on these parts as I have yet to have to at this point.

Thanks Jeff! I know it's electrical and sometimes warrenty is non existent. I am going to put efi on this truck in a few months so these parts were only tempoorary. May be my fault so I don't want to cost you a nickel! But if you can get them warentied I will use them until then. I'll even donate the rebuilt distributor with pertronix back to you for a worthy cause since you always seem to be one to help others like the wheelchair Scout jetfxr did.

Have any idea what I could have done wrong with pertronix? Could the loose distributor have caused a bad ground? It was snug but on a freshly painted motor... Is the base plate on pertronix a ground? Or just a mount?

Leak on top of coil is from very small crack and could be a defect or drop during shipment...

Both really bug me not knowing...
