Vent lines and filler hose

I am changing out all the lines from the gas tank and a buddy of mine told me he just capped all the vent line, filler hose and such. He just simplified it all and got a new fuel hose from the tank. Any thoughts on that? Is that recomendable?

If your "buddy" capped all the penetrations in the fuel tank, then ask him to explain and demonstrate how he vented the system, both for normal operation and filling the tank with the fuel nozzle at the fuel station!

Simply filling any Scout II (or s80/s800 for that matter) is a major bitch to both make it take fuel, and too keep the nozzle from clicking off early. Even more so with the vapor recovery dispensing systems found throughout kali and in many other states. That is because the filler neck vent arrangement is shit as originally designed.

It takes very careful fuel nozzle manipulation to keep gasoline off the paintwork on the fender.

Yea I'd like to know this as well. Hell, I added vent lines in my tank, I can't imagine someone capping them all. You'd have to fill it with gas cans.

Ya my buddy did say that the visit to the gas station is not a quick one. He ultimately sold the Scout to some dude in utah with a whole lot of cash (he bought a boat from him the same day just cause). Dont worry not even going to even think about capping anything!

So I need to find a vent system then for mine. The guy I bought my Scout ll from changed the tank too. No canister or vent lines. Just the main vent tube that runs back to the filler inlet. Any thing Scout said to just run a extra vent line out of the tank to a gas filter up high some where on the body out of sight. Is there any other thing too do to make this Scout fill up faster & breath. If not do u have a set up for my Scout. Thanks

You can put a fuel filter up in it like as said but then you will smell gas fumes and that is simply not safe for you or your kids riding in the back seat. There's nothing better than the factory set-up which had a vapor recovery chamber mounted up inside the left rear quarter panel and a charcoal canister mounted under hood. I have good used vapor recovery chambers and should be able to get a charcoal canister either new or used.

I second Jeff's idea...these tanks were designed and manufactured for use with a vapor recovery system. That is exactly why they have all the fittings for both vapor and liquid. They were not designed to be used only with a vent hose like much earlier systems were!

The vapor recovery system is somewhat unique for each vehicle, and if it's left alone creates no issues whatsoever. If...you are running a carburetor that simply will not connect to the system, then simply leave the connecting hose hanging down in the engine bay.

I have a poly tank, and the po only hooked up the fill and main vent line.

Its a pain to fill and it is causing vapor lock with my non vented cap

my carb will not take that vapor recovery line.

Can buy a vapor recovery tube used from Jeff and then hook up a charcoal canister in the rear 1/4 panel

all the stock emissions stuff is gone
