Hello,

I have a stupid question. Do I need to run vacuum advance on my truck? I know a guy who runs his ihs with no vacuum advance and he ear times them. It seems to work well for him, he pulls some pretty heavy trailers around. My truck is a '74 200 w/392.

Thanks,
jim

Running mechanical advance only will work ok.

If one were to run one tank of fuel through a perfectly tuned engine using all "available" engine options, and then optimize one and eliminate vacuum advance only, you would see maybe...a reduction of 2 mpg overall in using the same amount of total fuel.

So overall, a slight loss of fuel economy would be expected. But this varies by each vehicle and driver and is not science.

Try it and see for yourself!
