The teflon cord gasket passed a soap bubble test.
The Scout is now back together and has done four heat/cool
cycles, including a 16-odd mile freeway drive, with no evidence
of trouble. Fingers crossed, I think it's fixed.
The success of the teflon cord gasket material, Ace Hardware
number 4200374 "self forming valve packing", has been the most
interesting discovery so far.
