I'm new to the Scout world. Ran across a good deal on one and hated to pass it up. I hear a lot of talk about upgrading from the "gold box" system. What is the simplest way to do that? Mine seems to be working but just want to get a idea of what I can do to fix it before it goes out! Thanks for your help

The easiest path would be to upgrade to a pertronix ignition module. It will replace the gold box on the firewall with a small unit inside the dizzy.

Another upgrade is to install a Ford duraspark 2 cap and rotor and use the more modern 8mm wires. I'm in the process of doing this for my Scout. That is if the machine shop ever finishes my engine. :-(

The Ford duraspark II conversion on the Holley distributor is relatively easy on the 304 engine but I understand some 345 and 392 engines with the different size (larger) intake manifold might not have enough metal thickness that can be removed without damaging the manifold. Check with others that have done the conversion on the 345 or 392 engines. These images are for a 304 engine.
