Unknown Connection?

1977 SII, 4 cyl, 1bbl,4sp,d20, D44 front and back, P/S, P/B. No A/C.

found the pictured connector in the dash wiring. It is a rather large connector, with all wires "hot" with the engine off and key out of ignition. Most of the wires are 10g, and one small one a 14g. As you can see, the connector end is taped off (as if from factory?). Any Ideas? I also show some #'s on the wires.

I can't see all the circuit numbers, but #15 and #14 are primary power distribution and charge system circuits, also as evidenced by the wire gauge size and color. It could be that a previous owner performed an ammeter/alternator gauge bypass, as those wires would normally be bridged across the terminals of that gauge. Does that gauge work while the engine is running? As far as the tape is concerned, anyone could have done that.

That looks like the "battery feed connector" and is a basically a factory junction box. It's in the upper left of the wiring diagram. Note the attached diagram is for a 74 Scout.

ya know, it looks pretty basic and it looks to be a "factory" setup. I am the 2nd owner of the Scout, and the previous owner never had the dash apart, so I am guessing it came from the factory that way. Anyway, like I mentioned, all lines are "live" even with the ignition off and the key removed.

Oh well, I will leave it alone. Thank for the quick replies.

I think Hondo is right. I forgot about that little doodad. I've looked for it in my Scout in the past, but never found it, though it must be in there somewhere. The reason those wires are live is because they are in series with the battery positive terminal. It all looks to be in good shape. Tuck it back up in there and drive on.
