First I have a 75 Scout 2 with a 345 engine pertronics ignition 4bbl rochester quadrajet its a daily driver.just in the last few weeks I have had an issue starting her I turn the ignition the starter turns it over but it wont start I pull off the air cleaner open up the chock cover and keep it open and then try to start it and it will back fire then after a few more time turning it over it will fire up it seems to me that its the feul air mixture and its flooding itself out or the pertronics is not gapped properly I have timed it during this time thinking that was the problem am I on the right track or am I dead wrong please help as I said before its a daily driver and my only means of transpertation

Adjust the choke stove. (that little box on the passenger side of the intake manifold). It holds the choke closed during the initial starting attempt. I fixed 2 slls yesterday that were both plauged by starting problems for years. Set @ 3/8" preload on the spring, they both fired up first click.

Does this problem occur only during cold start attempts, hot start attempts, or every attempt?

The p-tron does have an air gap which must be set during installation according to the instructions in the kit and left alone. Set 'er and ferget 'er, in other words. This is not like setting and maintaining a dwell factor with breaker points that wear over time. So ensure this air gap is according to spec and leave it alone.

The q-jet was never oe on any IH engine, however it is similar in function and design to the carter thermoquad which was oe on a great many 345 engines and some 392 engines also. There are two choke designs for this carb. The mv designation employs a manifold mounted thermostatic choke coil (divorced choke). The mc version employs a carb mounted housing and coil attached to the side of the float bowl.

Proper choke function is vital for reliable starting and efficient performance from any carb. Since this is an adaptation scenario, there are simply too many unknowns to provide you with adequate tuning procedures at this point. If you can upload some quality pictures of your engine topside from both sides of the vehicle, it will help us to know what kind of setup you have.

I got it working I had a pressure valve for when off roading I took it off the feul line and now it starts fine I am thinking it was to much pressure and was dripping feul into the intake and flooding it out
