Trigger Gap?

Is there any trick to setting the gap on the Holley gb distriburter? I picked up brass feeler gages today. What do I set it at .08 or 14 (I've seen both numbers; which is correct)? My dwell reading is high and I think the trigger needs re-gapped so it will read correct.

Mm already provided the answer to this question by responding to your previous question regarding the same issue posted over in carb tech. You're chasing your tail around a little bit today.

Not really! In another post when I was doing a seach so I wouldn't ask the same ol' question over it stated .014 so mm said 8 and then I read 14 so I wanted to be sure. My main question was how do you set the gap. Do you just use the one screw on the plastic piece and/or is it basically like setting points or is there something that I need to be careful of? I know get the book, by right now I'm in over 2000.00 dollars and another hundred is getting hard come by so I was hoping I could get a straight answer on I know simple question from this forum.

Where the hell on the ihon forum has anyone stated "0.014" for any kind of gap for anything???

That figure matches nothing we've ever discussed around here at ihon. We don't just shit out "I thinks", we deal in fact and if we are wrong we acknowledge that and correct ourselves. And we do make mistakes on occasion! But there must be at least ten threads right here in this sub-forum that discuss the details regarding the Holley gold box ignition system.

The first dam thang ya shoulda bought was a service manual for that vehicle! That way you can educate yourself at your leisure. It contains about 12 pages of everything one needs to know regarding servicing a gold box system. Same for carburetion, etc.

Look at the dam trigger inside the distributor and you will plainly see how to adjust it, it can't be any simpler!

I am going to apologize regarding the "0.014" air gap" factor, I did find a post where I made a typo and obviously that led to this misunderstanding.

I will correct the original post.

thanks for setting the record straight. When you get as old as I'm getting its easy to second guess yourself. My wife tells me enough that I'm losing it so it doesn't take much to get myself wondering. Unfortunately I have to read these post 4 to 5 times and then I still have a hard time grasping what is being said and then I over think this crap?

Fyi I set the gap @ .008 and I'm still getting a high dwell reading?

Then your dwell meter is not capable of reading the trigger signal generated by the hall effect sensor used in the gold box system. Some dwell meters will work with electronic triggers, some will not.
