So again I am not a 100% car mechenaic but i do like to work on as much as I can. I plan on taking the truck to a tranny guy around town, but since i cant leave my house I would like to try and fix this myself. I have had the truck for 2 years now. I found out early that the truck doesn't seem to be engaging in park. I never park on a hill and have to put the E brake on all the time. I am hoping this is a simple adjustment and not a full tranny drop or even rebuild. Any suggestions would be very helpful for those more experienced guys out there.

The park pawl engages at the end of the park sector. Make sure the linkage/cable is pushing all of the way to the end of travel on the transmission lever. If not you should be able to make adjustments to the linkage/cable. If it still does not catch, the pawl might be damaged. That would likely require open heart surgery on the trans to fix.

Eak. Is this something I can probably figure out myself, or best be brought to the professional trans guy? I can follow cables but not sure I know what I would be looking at especially this stuff. I cant deal with any medical expenses for now. EFI upgrade just killed my bank account.

So, put the shifter in park. set the parking brake and roll/slide under and see if the lever on the transmission is firmly at it's stop. Follow the shift cable to it's termination on the side of the transmission and see if you can push it towards the park location further. The shift cable is push/pull cable meaning it can push and pull a small load, you may want to have some one actuate the shift lever in on the column and see which way is park. Please block the tires from rolling and be on level ground before attempting to move the shift lever from the park position.
