My truck is a 70 800a 304 3speed d30 front d44 rear. I was told there was 3 transfer cases scouts had a Dana 300 Dana 20 and a single speed which one do I have. Can someone tell me the differance in the 3. Can somebody teach me the shift pattern yes it is a single stick transfer case. I`m used too the np transfer cases these are a little new to me

Actually there is a 4th...... Dana 18.

But in you case, most likely it is a d20.

Google for images of each & crawl under & look.

A d300 will not bolt directly to the t90 transmission you have through the adapter plate.

A d18 has an "offset" rear output to the passenger side when compared to the centerline of the engine/transmission. Many other clues to identifying those as well.

The d20 has a rear output on the engine/transmission centerline. The single stick indicates a d20. Many Scout 800 units were produced with a twin stick d20 also. All d18 are twin stick, those cases were first intro'd in the mid-1930's.

And these items were originally a product of spicer...spicer was later acquired through some joint venture work by the Dana corp. Thus we commonly refer to 'em as "Dana" items even though they were a design/product of spicer gear. Confused???

There is also a stamped tag under a bolt head somewhere on the tc which will include both the spicer bom number (most important), and the ihc part number (if it's a case that was original to an ihc vehicle). See this thread:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/transmission-tech/1677-manual-transmission-id-help-please.html

Guess we need to work up a stickee for transfer case id on IH applications! We can do that! And that will include all the divorced case applications as well that we can bring together.

I am currently attempting to compile and update a reference for both spicer 18 and spicer 20 internal parts id and interchange...there is a reference available online but is very incomplete and was originally compiled for Jeep applications. So this will be an ongoing project that will evolve over time.

Some of the most diverse & visual information I've found about most transmissions & tcases have been the knowledge based sections of both novak adapters & advanced adapters.

Not to beat this into the ground...but the novak information...while a very nice first effort...is very incomplete and is primarily aimed at Jeep and early Bronco cases and workarounds.

And their "rebuild" information is really full of holes with dead ends and much lack of detail needed. At least they used spicer p/n data which is stamped on most spicer components and is a must to use for identification.

The information we'll be developing will be "similar" but will go into much more detail regarding ihc-specific apps and interchange.
