So im new to IH and I have been trying to figure out what transfer case I have in my 1973 IH 1110 it is very skinny and stamped IH but it is a pull cable to engage. I was wondering if this is just a 4lo only or what the deal is if anyone has a model number or type that would be awesome

thanks

That would be a frame-mount tc-143 ihc code 13143. Its a single speed, chain drive unit actuated by a pull cable. The only available range is hi. They're alright for occasional, casual use when additional traction is required, but not well suited for off-roading.

What does everyone think about the 143 is it worth the time and money to swap to one of the Dana's and if so what one? And also I have been looking around and not finding to many parts for if and when the 143 breaks it seems to be fine now but we will see once the truck gets running better

Your vehicle is set up for a divorced or frame mounted transfer case, so swapping to any of the Dana married cases common to the scouts, such as the 20 or the 300 would require too much modification to be practical. The two-speed case that was available as optional equipment for your truck was the tc-142 code 13142 (new process NP205) single lever case. This case was common to other domestic 4x4 vehicles of similar vintage.
