Toys for Tots Dec 20th

Hi babsers,

whew, that name is going to take some getting used to. Ever see that movie baps? That's the first thing that came to my mind. Ha ha. If some members are enthusiasts, does that make them babes?

Ahem, back to business. On December 20th we are planning our first ever toys-for-tots charity run. The toys-for-tots program provides toys for disadvantaged children who would otherwise not receive presents for children.
We will be gathering at the '50s diner around 10:00 for brunch. Then we'll decorate our trucks for the trip to the donation center. Someone remind me to get a group photo.
Toys-for-tots asks you to please donate new, unwrapped toys. They also need large lawn size trash bags to help with distribution. I asked the neighbors on my block to help out and they responded with several nice toys. With their help, karen and I have a medium size cardboard box full of gifts.
I see this as an oppertunity to give somthing to the community and have a little fun at the same time. Also, any publicity it garners us can only be a good thing. Right? :winky:
I sent out flyers after the last meeting for members to print out and use. If you didn't get a copy, just e-mail me and I'll get one to you. Or browse to marine toys for tots foundation
So Mark your calendar for dec 20th and I'll see you there!

Marty

Unfortunately I won't be making it.

We are taking the kids to a "breakfast with santa", which is put on by children's home association (fundraiser helping children).

Sorry.
Maybe next year.

Mike

Ok, here's the plan. No change from the previous plan:

we'll meet for brunch at 11:00 - 11:30 at the '50s diner in fremont (39403 fremont blvd) on sat dec 20th.
After stuffing our bellys to capacity we can decorate our trucks for the short trip to the donation center. Bring your own tinsel, etc.
At 1:00 we'll arrive at the donation center for a group photo and to drop off the toys.
After that, we'll scatter to the four winds.
See you there!

Joe,

sorry about the delay getting back to you, I've been kinda buisy the last couple of weeks and I've not been checking the board that often.
If you still want to help out, you can drop off a toy or cash donation at 39194 paseo padre pkwy any time between now and the 20th. Or you can drop off / donate at any usmc recruting center.

marty

Thanks karen and marty

whoa, it turned into a really great day. This was my first t4t run. Something we’ve talked about for years with marty and karen finally doing something about it. Craig, dave, neil, karen ‘n marty, and cary got together for brunch at our usual hangout in fremont. We’re not use to seeing the 50’s diner during the day and that crowded.

Neil commuted over the bridge in his yellow 800 sans top and doors. At first we wondering who was in the yellow Scout cause neil never removes the doors; plus he was alllll bundled up. Marty fixed up rusty with antlers. Dave and Craig arrived with the benefit of working heaters. After breakfast and in the diner parking lot, we dressed up the scouts with strings of garland. We caravanned a few miles to the marine drop-off point. I bet karen’s homemade fudge won’t last long with those guys. [side note…ya know something guys – I bet the fudge never makes it past staff sergeant who was on duty next door at the army center:smilewinkgrin: ] We had quite an assortment of toys to help the marines with their usual drive.

Are we going to do this next year? You bet’cha; but a few weeks earlier.

Had a lot of good stories to tell from our hollister trip.

Personally, I’ve had this bah-humbug thing going lately. But this event changed my attitude.
Sooo, merry Christmas all
cary

Thanks cary for the previous post. And thanks to those who could not attend, but contributed anyway. :) : trevor & katherin cook, terresa & john robinson, mary across the street, doc stewart, and all the rest.
I'm hoping that this will be the start of an ongoing tradition.
I agree that we should get an earlier start next year. I'll bring it up in the oct-nov meeting.... 'till then, here are the group photos.

Marty

p.s. Thanks Craig for taking that last picture. Who is that lady soldier grabbing cary's ass?

Ahhh, the challenges I go through to spread the IH word. It never would have worked out between us.
