Title question

I've finally found what May be thee Scout. After about a month of emailing back and forth I finally checked it out. It has it's fair share of rust to deal with but if it was pristine I wouldn't want to modify it the way I plan to. The question I have is regarding the title. It has an out of state title that is signed by the owner previous to the guy I'd by it from. He never got title in his name. Is this a problem? I have never dealt with this situation before.
Thanks

I have found that as long as a bill of sale follows each transfer of ownership you should be fine. If you show up at the dmv with no proof of transfer between the previous owner they May make you get one before you can finish transfer of title. I would think since owner 1 signed the title over to owner 2 you should be fine as long as owner 2 writes you a bill of sale. In the end it will probably be best to call the dmv and tell them what you are planning before you open up a can worms.

Thanks Jeff. Owner 2 is quite willing to provide a bill of sale so maybe I'm good. There's the possibility of tracking down owner 1 but that could be a hassle unless everything could be done by mail.

You can't do that over here, I had to have the title in my name to be able to sell it. Maybe there's a loophole if you're a dealer but otherwise you have be in your name.
