Tire recomendations?

As some of you might know, I've been shopping around for new tires for the s II.
I had my heart set on the new BFG mud terrain k/o 2s. Unfortunately all of the distributors that I have talked to say that those tires are on a "national backorder". Apparently BFG underestimated the demand for those tires in 33/12.50-15. There are none in stock, none in distribution and BFG is not saying when they will make more. Too bad, because discount tires direct is offering a $60 rebate on a set of four plus free shipping.
So, what do you recommend for a similar m+s with good tread life and not too much highway howl?
What are you guys running and how do you like them?

I am running some mickey thompson baja mtzs on my pickup 285-75-r16 and I love them. I have run the mtzs a couple of times on my pickup as well as the toyo open country mts.

Both tires I have really enjoyed, but I think I like the mtz's better. Road noise on the mtz is better than the open countrys too.

I am running some baja claws on my Scout and they are fun ;p they grab everything in the road and then some
 
Toyota guys really like the goodyear mtrs...

I had pro-comp muds, but switched to the bfgs (bfgs were much better).

I know a few guys that actually love their BFG all terrains (33s & 35s).

If you plan on spending most of the time on the street, that might be a good choice.
 
I just ordered a set of 235/75-15 goodyear wrangler radials (29" tall). I'll put these on my oem rims and use them for driving around town and for pulling my trailer. I still want a set of 33s.

The guy I talked to yesterday at discount tires said that a lot of people are switching to the BFG mud terrains in 33/10.50-15. Just like int77345 said. I wonder if this is because they work so well, or simply because the 12.50s are unavailable. Can you tell me more?

I did it because they fit my fenders better. And I haven’t noticed any difference between the 10.50 and the 12.50 so for me they work great
 
Hey moose... I also recommend the mtz's. I have them on my Jeep as a daily driver and they are very smooth and quite and they work very very well offroad (esp. In the snow and ice).

The only problem I have is that they are too stiff for my Jeep, which would make them perfect for a heavier vehicle like a Scout.

I have toyota friends running the mtr's and I have noticed that they are made from a really soft compound. I cant imagine them having a long life on a heavier vehicle.
 
Well, I changed the order for the goodyear wrangler radials to yokohamas at the last minute. They were a few bucks cheaper and had twice the tread wear rating.
While I was at america's tires having them installed I ordered a set of BFG all terrains in the 33 x 12.50 size. I just got tired of waiting for the mud terrains to come available. Besides, the all terrains are m+s rated.
Btw, america's tires dropped their price to the lowest price I was able to find on the internet (discount tires direct). Sweet!!!
