Tire Question from Mastiff

Here it is. Michael's still got my carb, so you just get garage shots. I think it looks pretty tough. The skinnies are cool. :yesnod: no rub from turning on level ground, haven't tested the stuff yet. Feels kind of pimped out with the wheels being the shiniest thing on the whole vehicle.

Got the carb today and took her out for a spin. Drives much better. I need to make sure the timing is still where I want it, maybe I can take a little more advance now that the fuel is right. I still find that it lugs down some when coasting out of a turn. For example taking a turn in a residential neighborhood, I'll slow down and be in second as I go around, then when I finish the turn and want to accelerate it gets hung up a little. It May be a matter of technique too, since if I keep the clutch in around the turn so I can rev the motor some I can make it work out better.

The steering seems much better now. I found that my u-bolts were not nearly torqued enough after I put the lift springs on. I tightened those up and put the washers between the springs and shackles to tighten that up. I think the whole suspension was sloppy before which was making it wander.

I'm feeling pretty good about it now. Next up I'm thinking about some lockable storage so I can park in town, some sort of spare tire mount or hold down, and some skid plates before I take it off road. The clutch stuff looks vulnerable to me.

Thanks for all the help. I'll post up some better pictures soon. I think it looks pretty good, though the body needs some professional attention.

Mastiff, I really like the stance and tires on your Scout. I have a 68 800. Can you share what you did to the suspension on yours and what size tires you ended up with? From what I can see it looks like a basic shackle lift of a couple inches, but I'd like to confirm.

Thanks!

Well, I sold the Scout a little while ago, but it had a mr. Scout lift kit on it. I honestly can't remember how many inches that was, but I'm sure a little research would turn it up. I also went with some heavy duty shackles from IH Parts America. It May have added a slight amount to the lift, but not a lot. My order from them says:

CPT-shackle-setcpt heavy duty shackle kit length: CPT-shackle-set-4 scout80
