The Uber Hauler

Understandable. Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Even if you did do a rebuild on the motor, looking at roughly 2500 plus the 300 base price, then you would need to look at it as a $2800 truck :icon_razz: all in labor of love

And honestly. Whats a little blowby between gnarly scored cylinder walls.

Its supposed to smoke right? :rolleyes5:

labor of love my azz. All I want is a mad max style truck that scares small children when it fires.

Bummer about the engine. I was thinking about your comment that it was a pickup engine. The flywheel you have is drilled for a 12/13" clutches. The pickup is drilled for 11/12" clutches. My engine swap is completed and the new free (sorry to rub it in a:cornut:) runs like a top.

Those pistons scream cheap rebuild since they only have 3 rings instead of the usual 4. I might have a line on a 392 block/engine if you need it. A guy offered me a bunch of free IH engine parts a few years ago and might still have them. I'm in mendocino county.

Hell I appreciate that man. But I think for right now im just gonna toss in my 345 or 304.

Yeah yeah. Rub it in. Sheesh. I have a line on a 392 right now. But im not too overly paitent.

Hopefully my next update will be cheery and bright.

And full of less swearing :incazzato:

None worth mentioning. Having to hold off for rmihr. A 400$ clutch and engine parts were gonna run me to short. With rmihr looming over my shoulder I decided to throw my terra back together and break out the old aliddin canned ham camper. Not quite the entrance I was hoping for at rmihr20. But I cant always get my way. Soon as I sell a few more vehicles ill have more room and funds to do a proper build on the wee critter. I really dont wanna half ass something this cool so if theres another show sometime after the rally ill probably pull it together and make it to that one

The loadstar moves foward. I have a line on a 304 from a co loadstar still attached to its wee transmission.

Even better I get a nice air compressor out of it.

Trying to get the 10 9.00x20's mounted on rims as well.

Also. Since its going to tow all my stuff around. Like my farmall and fridge and my scouts. A new name has emerged.

The IH toterstar.

Hopefully I can finish this shortly and someone can enjoy it as much as me. Its been annoying and tiresome but very rewarding up to this point.

Finally got ahold of the owner of the engine and tires, its gonna be an expensive and busy week for me. Im picking up my new parts rig as well this week

guy wanted 350 for the engine and transmission. 150 for the tires. I wanted 150 for the engine and trans. And 100 for the tires. We finally came to blows. After a broken nose and many injured feelings he saw things my way. Its gonna cost me 350 for an engine/trans and 10 9.00x20 tires mounted on rims. Only 1 bad tire in the bunch :yesnod:

so a 500$ parts rig in denver. A 350$ pile of scrap metal. Two seperate trailers. Two different trips. Basically 1000$ to try and get ahead on the pumpkin build and the toterstar.

If you see me selling organs on craigslist you'll know why

Man I am drooling over your air compressor!!!!!! Thats what I need for my rig so when I drive my Jeep on the bed I can air down the tires and I can also adjust them for different trails once unloaded! Sooo sooo lucky:) really cool to see to man. The new names fits and good luck on the parts coming your way good deal:icon_lol: whats the thing taking place off the trans shifter stick?? Looks like a chunk off how does that work to shift?? T98 tranny? The engine looks fairly clean which is a nice sign lol I am at the expensive tire stage myself:icon_crying:

Its actually a borg warner t-19. Thats a remote shifter of sorts. The cab over loadstars had colum shifters. 4 on the tree. So im assuming there used to be some horrible wiring system involved.

Yeah im gonna use that compressor for three things....horns...brakes....and an air compressor...:skep:. Since its gonna haul my toys I figure like you so....only my toys have red power plants. But if im gonna turn my pumpkin into a wheeler im gonna need the air down accessibility.

Tell you what. Im getting another 304....wanna repower your Jeep :cornut:

no charge.

Wow I learn and see new things everyday on here! I never saw any kind of shifter like that or 4 on the tree for that matter lol and I thought my grampas 65 Chevy with 3 on thee tree was a mess haha yours is going to make a awesome haul rig what are the plans for the bed part off it? Ahhhh yes air horns what every IH should have:)
it would be so cool to repower with IH power but the shear weight is what stops me but it would make for a awesome setup all together plus everything else is red on it almost already lol id be the only on in moab with something like it:) or the dunes for that matter haha

Good question on the bed...the problem is the bed is only 9ft long. Which leaves alot to be desired. I figger I got 3 options.

1) do away with the bed. Add the sleeper and 5th wheel hitch
2) extend the undersized bed another 2-3 feet so the farmall m fits comfortably.
3) leave the bed alone and throw on a hitch and use the bed to haul my atv's and add ribs and a canvas tarp to also have a roof and a place to chill.

The damn thing is gonna start costing again lol

I say go with a bit longer bed:) never can have to much space for all the toys! 9ft comes up just a bit short, mine just squeeze on being my flatbed is 10ft but I also pushed it back 6inches just to have more room to play with when loading from back of cab and strapped down driving. That would be cool to have a hidden underneath extender for the farmall though to lol my Dad wants me to make a canvas tent over mine when camping but I wont tell him your thinking off it to otherwise he will be braking out the welder and saws to make a frame lol if metal wasn't so darn pricey id say go after making the longer bed forsure! Maybe 12ft? With the extending ability when needed or something like that? I know I am limited to short wheelbase vehicles only to haul even with my 10 footer already lol

I like that idea. Im looking at a 32ft gooseneck right now. So I May get lucky. Two scouts and a farmall could all be hauled. I would imagine cdot would finally come down on me for that one. 7000lbs of tractor. 10,000lbs of scouts. 10,000lbs of loadstar. Oh and 3,000 lbs of trailer.

Guess at 30,000lbs im still safe eh.

Now you got me all hyped up. Go get me a 12in clutch. We're gonna go tear shit up man

Ok come Monday I get to go pick up my engine and trans and tires.

My little 5x10 3200 gvwr trailer has to haul this crap so we'll see. 1000lbs of engine and trans

1000lbs of tires and rims.

Squatted little trailer

im trying to figger out the logistics of gettin the engine/trans up onto my trailer and about the only thing I can think of is take my 1ton engine hoist and lift the engine and back the trailer under it. Should be fun for me

next time I post on here I should be a happy wee man

After fighting some kind of illness that is kicking the shit out of me 6 ways to Sunday I decided to suck it up and go get my tires and engine regardless of how I feel.

My 5x10 will never talk to me again. I severely underestimated the weight and size of the tires for a few reasons. One of those reasons was the 4 22.5 in rims and tires hidden on the bottom of the pile. Much heavier. The 304 and tranny I kinda expected to be heavy. And I wasnt disappointed.

Im done for the day. Totally wiped. Ended up loading everything myself.

Lets put it this way. I dont need to do my workout tonight

Alright, first happy update in a long time. Im very happy to report that the story of the clutch being replaced shortly before the engine and trans was pulled appears to be true.

Very little clutch material appears to be gone. Springs are new. Tob is new. Im slightly optimistic.

Regardless this is a good sign. Many usuable parts from this engine

I did crack the top end buddy. Ill try and get pics up tomorrow. Someone did a poor job of covering the intake so I found my fair shars of surface rust on the rockers. And pushrods. One piston on each side both had water sitting in them (dished pistons) and from the one cam bearing I can see its missing a chunk out of it. Rearmost bearing. Again. Its what youd expect from a tired old 304 that sat through 8 seasons of rain and snow. Looks like everything is salvagable right now except maybe welded style rocker arms. Again. Not concerned. The clutch paid for itself. Ill probably rebuild this engine while im building the 392 the 304 and the 196. Might as well. Maybe IHPA will give me a discount lol. The 3 and a half engine discount.

Regardless its a good buy for me. It gives me more parts to ship to ellie. More cushion if one of my other engines fails. Im down to two 304's and a spare 196 that are ready to drop in. So a few more wouldnt hurt. When I get the toter done ill throw a Scout behind it and ill come make a trip to az and we can tear shit up! :cornut:
