The dangers and benefits of a slow moving project

In lieu of the slow activity around here lately I make a postulation:

patients is the tolerance of delay. It's an art and a practice. They say, even, a virtue. But in my case it's the product of not knowing exactly what direction I want to go crossed with the ability to put things that annoy me out of my conscious and multiplied by the inability to find a balance then dividing that total by the lack of knowledge to complete a task. A virtue, not exactly, but beneficial none the less.

It is with that state that I have endured the meandering projects I have undertaken with the Travelall and Scout. Measuring progress not in work done but in the tools purchased or built to do said work. I am both annoyed and thankful for the many pursuits and responsibilities I have to fill my time. Being a god fearing man and the best husband, father and loyal friend I can be is the highest priority and passion for me. The second is getting these damn internationals running, however, the first seems to bring tasks of lesser importance into the forefront while the internationals take a back seat. And it's this situation that has both tried my patients and given me pause to be thankful for them.

On the one hand I could have a running and functional Scout. But would I have been happy with it? It sure gets old when you have to show up to meetings in anything other than what the meetings are all about anyways. On the other hand, the tolerance for delay has given me a great prize and in a way turned my patients into a virtue. This post is a round about way (because it's been damn slow on the forums lately) to say that I finally have a full and complete plan for the cannibal Scout. One that has filled in the unknown and dark places of the plan that I couldn't foresee until now.

So for all of those projects that you have undertaken that do not move as fast as you wish them to move, have a little faith that patients is a virtue that will produce a positive outcome.

More on my plan later, be patient ...

One reason for your slow motion project(s): mayben.

He has convinced more guys they need full frame off restorations/full engine rebuilds.....

If you'd talk/listen to that guy less , you'd be better off and farther along! :icon_xd::icon_xd:

just don't let him know, otherwise he will quit helping you out, then you will be even farther behind...

Yeah, well, I can relate. For me lately work has been in the way a bunch. I thankful I'm working, but..................

Speaking of projects, do you still have the half cab laying around, you know, the one I have a windshield to trade for?

We need to set a time to get together. Any way you could bring it to the meeting this Thursday?

Don't blame drew's issue regarding project creep on me! When ya start with shit, and add more shit, and then start blingin' shit, shit gits in the way!

Focus boy!!!! Focus!!! Git them dam kidz out there with the grinders and an assignment, they don't git fed until their work is signed off! Make 'em eat and sleep in that shop until at least one item is checked off, then give 'em 24 in tha house and start the cycle agin. That'll either make 'em gearhaids or turn 'em into tofu-sukkin' greenees.

Need any more parenting tips??

I have a feeling that, if I were to do that, a new circuit of beltsander racing would be created in our neighborhood. I know because that's what my friends and I did in our old man's shop unsupervised, after fixing the goosneck on our chrome bmx bikes.

There was also a small industrial revolution built upon the primers of shotgun shell casings and black powder. The kind that back in the 70's and early 80's brought you a stern reprimand instead of domestic terrorist charges and carrying a knife in your pocket and a .22 caliber bullet in the label of your jean jacket was pretty standard at school.

No, I am pretty sure that if I send a four year old out to the shop under the supervision of a six year old that in some way I am committing child abuse or neglect. But I will throw my spare welding hood over them and they can watch me weld, cut and grind. They think it's cool that you can explode metal out in Dad's shop. "do it again daddy.. Make bigger lava sparks!!!"

Sorry, I misunderstood your post, you mean patience, right? I kept looking for the punch line about someone in a smock or something.

Anyway, now that I think I understand, you should not be hard on yourself for being deliberative. I would think it intuitively obvious, even to the casual observer, that you are a man of the world and having tasted necter many times, now finds joy in the growing of flowers. You are an artist, not some brow beaten commoner who only interest is a swag of ale and wenching. Rejoyce man.

Here'sa tip...quit thinkin' and talkin" about shit and git out there and do shit...any shit...just do shit! Right or wrong, who cares, ya can always fix it later after ya lern shit. Do one single pilea shit and git it rollin', put the rest of 'em in tha pasture.

When yore tryin' to think/talk bullshit about needless/useless blingshit, no shit happens on any pilesa shit! Then all yore shit rolls downhill into that pile of more shit through acquisitions that don't mean shit. Polish one piecea shit into a turd and then ya can move on to the next one!

Ya got one of the best dam shops in the northwest, git all that shit outta there and put a turd inside and git it on!

I tell you what... Find someone that can take care of a full time special needs person, three kids under 6, cows, goats, chickens, 60 hour a week work weeks, 3 acres of landscaping, and a todo list longer than santa's nice list who doesn't mind dealing with my other extended family duties or contributions to clubs and I will gladly stop talking and sling some shit around in my shop.

Until then I will be patient and happy with the small progress I make here and there and over engineer everything because all I can do is think about what I want to do.. And that is the total meaning of the post.

As I sit here at work writing code to statistically analyze the probability that a ninth grade student who fails a single class their freshman year will not graduate and break that down by demographics, ethnicity and economic diversity and analyze the methods and matrix I use to produce that probability and deviating data profile I find that my mind wanders to what I really want to do. Get my turds rollin fat!:mad2:

trust me, I spend any extra time I have out in the shop. Right now the lights are not working in the shop and I have some busted water pipe feeding the shop to fix. So the next time I get an hour or so I will be figuring out why I don't have lights or digging up buried and broken water pipe.
