Just finished pulling the 345 with major problems and installed a good running 304.
Huge thank you to mayben, rognon, hoobler, my neighbor kevin, my other neighbor who lent me his truck to get the 304, Gregg Rich, my father-in-law, the IHOnly north people, and victor, who I got the motor from.
I ran it down to loveland to check out the good guys show, it ran pretty good.
It took 3 months but of course I could not swap the motor without replacing and repairing the; rag joint, trans mount, motor mounts, alternator, hoses, battery tray, heater core, heater control valve, radio & speakers, minor wiring and adding a tach, oil press, vacuum and a/f gauges.
Also the grill, from a 73, no 73 rings, I just painted and used the 79 headlight trim.
(the photo at the bottom is a before shot with the plastic '79 grill)
(the other car is my father-in-laws studebaker, early 50s custom, mostly 56 body, I think) IMG_3737.jpg

Great update nick! Been a battle huh???

I grew up in studebakers from the '49 through the last one, a yellow '53 commander! Pop was a road lizard for general electric and put enough miles on 'em every year to swap for a fresh one, I saw a lotta kuntry from the back seat of that 'baker which generated my passion for geography and travel!

I still feel those 'bakers were pivotal vehicles for the American auto industry, far advanced for the times and still are what I think of when someone mentions the term..."automotive design".

What's next???
