Tail light conversion

Hello,

I have the metal tail light housings and I have been having some trouble with my right tail light showing break and turn lights.

I was thinking of maybe changing them out to the plastic housing tail lights. So I was wondering if these sockets plug into the existing wiring or if I need to cut the wiring and then splice them into the wiring?

Thank you,

You will need to cut and splice these in but the procedure is very simple. Let us know if you have any other questions.

That is great to hear..... Could finally have all break lights and turn signals in the rear.

one other thing, I would assume that the colors that are on the sockets will match the stock wire colors going to my current tail lamps?

Thank you
bill

Actually, the colors do not match the factory wiring harness but its real easy to do.

The socket shown on the left in the picture is for the back-up lamp. The green wire will go to the existing back-up lamp wire while the black goes to ground. The socket on the right will have the yellow wire go to the brake, brown to tail lights, and black again to ground.

That is an easy connection. Hopes for working tail lights are starting to become easier.

would you recommend running the ground to a body or frame bolt or just the ground in the existing wiring or pig tail it and do both?

Also what kind of connectors would you recommend? (I.e., butt connectors, push on connectors, bullet connectors or quick splice?)

thank you,
bill

You can end the ground leads on the body behind the tail housing. As for connectors its whatever you feel comfortable with. I usually butt connect my connections followed by heat shrink tubing to keep the connection waterproof.
