T14 Collar/Throwout Removal

I pulled the motor on my 69 and will replace the clutch while I have access. How does the collar/throwout come off? I couldn't find it in the manual.
 
The throwout bearing is a light press fit over the collar. Easily removed using a "pusher" such as a large socket, chunk of pvc pipe, etc.

If you mean "how to remove collar/bearing assembly from the cross shaft"...

In this pic of a t18 setup for a Scout 800 with the pancake bell housing, ya can see the cross shaft and release fork. Behind the mounting point of the fork to the shaft there is a set screw that needs to be released.

Then the shaft is driven out of the bell housing after cleaning as much shit from the shaft as ya can so it can slide through the various holes. There is also a "key" inna keyway machined into the shaft that locates the fork to the shaft. That will be stuck with grunge also.

If ya don't wanna remove the cross shaft, then simply pull the tranny from the bell housing and slide back to remove the throwout bearing assembly.

Wow, what a p.I.t.a. Is there any way to remove the bearing from the collar without removing the collar from the shaft? I can't slide the transmission back from the bellhousing because that portion of the truck is on gravel.

Try and drive a small/short "wedge" on each side of the crack between the collar and bearing at the rear where they separate. Wedge means a couplea flat blade screwdriver tips ground real thin so ya can git 'em inserted, or sumthin' similar. Once it moves, then ya can walk it off the collar.

Sumtimes, the bearing comes off the collar real easy, nearly take it off with your hands. Other times it is kinda frozen but unless the bearing assembly is heavily corroded like it was left under water inna dairy cow feed lot, it will slide on off with some careful application of prying forward. Then the collar will simply remain in place and ya can clean up it's hub before installing a new throwout bearing.

Sounds like the tranny is still in the rig and ya just popped the motor out for replacement. No problem...ya just gotta git creative in moving the bearing off the collar. Do not rig a "claw" type puller and push against the transmission input shaft, the guts are not designed for that kinda thrust load!

When ya install a replacement throwout bearing, make sure the collar hub is sterile. Then gently tap into place using a piece of pvc pipe or block of wood. It will not be hard to push into place if everything is clean.
 
One thing I did notice is that the release fork which is attached to the cross shaft has a nut & bolt that clamps it tight. The odd thing is that the nut and bolt were worn completely flush, like the nut/bolt were cut clean. Also when I removed the 9/16 nut from the bolt the nut was not even on all sides. A socket would not fit, a box end wrench would only work on 3 sides. It seems it must be wearing on something but there is nothing in the way that I can see. Also what should I look for in regards to wear in the fork/collar/shaft and linkage? Thanks for the help.
