mm,
could you build a diy for those wanting to do an auto to manual swap for sv engines?
Sure we could! But...
The auto-to-manual conversion is platform-dependent. Doing this witha 2x4 fullsize rig is somewhat different that doing the same onna on say a 4x4 Scout II with a married transfer case!
And due to mechanical variations in vehicles in any platform over the years compounds this. Writing up a "parts list" involving all the detailed parts changes would be very difficult to do in an accurate manner. And any of the parts (with the exception of manual clutch components) would have to be be donor/boneyard stuff that will vary tremendously in selection, quality, and application.
Sometime back, I "acquired" an accumulation of pieces from a club member who gave up on converting a slushbox d-model pickup (tf 727) to a t-34 using a set of donor parts sv-powered from loadstar. But he was never able to come up with all the correct clutch pedal assembly and clutch actuation pieces though he had most of it. And the t-34 needed a complete major overhaul after he bought it sight-unseen off craigslist. Turns out it was not a t-34 and it was internally trashed to boot!
The result of a two year effort to find all the "bolt-in" parts...he left all the stuff in my shop as a "donation"...the trans went to a local medium duty truck salvage operation as a piece of $10 scrap.
That's just an example of how seemingly simple projects go awry...and the guy actually knew what to do and is an accomplished wrench!
I personally stay away from doing stuff like this...I see no benefit in swapping unknown condition junk parts for parts that are also suspect!
If you have a complete/functional "donor" for this kinda deal that is exactly the same platform as the recipient, then it's a straight forward parts swap which most of the time involves r&r of frame-mounted pieces also.
